Best way to get rid of AVG 8?

I think Avg 8 is causing my computer to run really slow. After reading several threads here, I believe I need to uninstall then reinstall using the custom install and uncheck a few options. I'm sure initially I just whizzed through the install and everything was left checked. I know I have the toolbar, and the scans go on for hours in addition to everything just generally seeming to run much slower than normal.

Can someone tell me the best tool for removing all of this program?

The advice by DomLuc is the correct procedure to follow. You may download to your computer the latest AVG Free installer (avg_free_stf_en_85_392a1598.exe) using this link:

There are also other matters to consider, depending on your OS and programs installed and running.

It is important to disable UAC and DEFENDER (in the correct manner) ....

It is important to disable in the correct manner any other security software that is providing "real-time" protection ... such as Spybot's TeaTimer and AdAware's AdWatch .... and also any parental control type programs.

If you follow all the correct procedures, you should not have too many issues to deal with ...
