I have an Acer Aspire 5734z that i have had for about 3 and a half months now that has worked perfectly until a few days ago. Long story short after the holidays I think my nephew got a virus on my computer. I got the bluescreen and could not get back into windows for very long before it began to shutoff again and got worse each time. I could hardly even get in safe mode. So I backed up my computer on a flahdrive and did the factory reair. That went well until the last second before completing my computer shut down. I have tried to reinstall windows 7 on it..but it says unsuccessful. Im just trying to get it to work properly before i start back to college next week and I cant afford another one. Tuition broke me!!! Im not sure if I should just junk it or what to do at this point. I can get into BOOT some of the time and have done some research the last few days...but I think I have done more damage than good. Any suggestions???

I have been reading the threads and posts and have learned alot over the past few days. Just wish I had found it sooner.

Do you have another computer that you can use to burn clean copies of programs to? On the malware forum there is an amazingly good procedure to clean just about any infection you might have. I have cleaned a computer that a tech gave up on with it as my last resort before reformatting.

The super malware clean up instruction thread (aka, saved my life, my sanity and my work thread) http://forums.majorgeeks.com/showthread.php?t=35407

If you can print the instructions and burn the tools, then you are likely to be ok without reformatting and absolutely aren't going to junk it.

You need to start with the procedures in the malware forum and if you get stuck or you need to double check that you are clean, post in there.

Thanks. I do have a computer im borrowing for a few days to see if i can fix this. I do so appreciate it. Ill give it a try!! I had looked at that thread before...but at the time couldnt access windows very long. I guess now I am free to try anything without having to worry about messing it up. You have given me hope.

I moved your thread to the software forum as you will need to be able to boot to a stable system before we can help you with malware.

If you cannot boot in any mode ( safe or normal mode ) and you cannot run any of the READ & RUN ME there is not much we can do for you except suggest what is in the below quote box

Before I do that...is there anything I can do from setup utility? Earlier I got my comp to recognize and almost install windows 7. It also recognized my backup Flashdrive. I just couldnt get it to go to where it said Load Driver to repair. But I got there in safe mode...amost installing windows 7... just took forever and I cant remember how I did it. Would trying to switch Sata mode to IDE mode help or hinder it? Or since I did make it that far earlier... is it possible something might be done before all this? Thanks so much but I am so appreciative of all the help.

If you folllow TimW 's advice, as you suspect a virus- the iso file that you download nust be burned to a disc, and then inserted , and used as you start up your infected Acer.
This will search for known virus/malware, and possibly clean it, so that you can retry.
I f you are using the recovery partition then follow TimW advice, as changing too much, can lose the ability to use the recovery partition. The more you experiment, .................
