BF2 Problem

Okay, now i kno this is a common problem but i really need help, alright well whenever i play bf2 my game sometimes will play 20-30 mins, then a black screen will come then it will either take me back to my desktop or it will just simply restart my computer...now this is very irritating cause i cant figure out whats wrong, and i am willing to upgrade hardware if i have to, so here are my current CPU'S specs.

Try low settings and see if it works BF2 is the shittiest game I ever played crashing/bugs wise.Everyone crashes etc.

 

did it use to play fine or has it always been like this? if this isnt new then its possibly a PSU issue. I really dont think that a Dell PSU could power an x800 very well and could very well be causing the restarts. PC Power and Cooling sells PSUs built specially for Dells, check them out. BTW, what is the wattage of that PSU? just pop open the case and look at the sticker on the side of it if u dont know already

 

I got a 450 W power supply, i cut a whole in my dell and put it in, it didnt hard anything, but i am running my x800 at 4x AGP cause i only have a 4X Compatible vid. card slot, (AGP)...What mobo should i upgrade it to to handle my X800 XL at 8x?

 

im guessing that its socket 478 since its an older computer so id reccomend an ASUS P4P800-E Deluxe or one of the P4P800/P4C800 boards, depending on what features you want. Its also a plus coming from a Dell board as you can now overclock from the BIOS which is nice. I just bought that ASUS board i first mentioned and its AWESOME, great features, really fast, pretty much everything you'd want in a good mobo except that its only AGP and they dont make any good PCIe boards for socket 478 processors It does cost as much as a good SLI board but its top of the line AGP. Just make sure that your case can fit an ATX mobo as most prebuilt computers use smaller motherboards. You could also grab a new case to stick everything in as well which should make it look better as well as allowing for better cooling.

As for your problem, im stumped. Have you tried the basics? Updating drivers, scanning for malware (viruses, spyware etc), things like that? Also, is it only this game that crashes? It could be a problem with the game itself. Try another graphically intensiev game to see if you get the same results. Throw FEAR or Quake 4 at it and see how it works. Get the demos if you dont want to buy them

 

All right, and if i was to get the ASUS P4P800-E Deluxe mobo, what processor would u recommend me getting?! (which by the way, does bf2 really support the x800 XL 8X/AGP cards?)But back to the main ques. which processor would you really recommend for the ASUS P4P800-E Deluxe?

 

And Also, i need some RAM opinions, cause the way its looking im guna go with that ASUS P4P800-E Deluxe mobo and i want some of the best ram i can get...

 

Most of the BF2 crashes come from overheating, most people forget that BF2 is indeed very strenuous on a computer. If you may, please post you're temps on idle and under stress, this will help further in narrowing the issue to 1 thing.

If not it probably is the PSU, I had the same issues when I had to use an underpowered PSU in place of a busted one waiting on a new PSU. I got crashes of the same sort.

Well i use to be able to run the demo b4 bf2 actually came out fine, but when i had that i had a Nvidia 6200 OC agp 4x card (which isnt near as good specs wise as my x800 XL AGP..im thinkin i need to upgrade the mobo and CPU and some ram, cause i have some pretty sorry ram, yeah its a gig but its Pc2700 ) plus im running an 2.0 Ghz processor which ive had since...i believe since..2002 or 2003, i have made no changes to the mobo, just the hard drive, PSU, Ram, Vid card, and CD RW which is now a CD-RW/DVD player, (memorex)

 

Right, your system specs are fine to run the game so that's not a problem.

How long have you actually owned the game?

How long has the problem persisted?

Do you have the latest 1.3 patch installed?

 

not to stray from the point but why do toy have your E: drive FAT32 and your C: drive NTFS?...both should be NTFS. dosent make that much of a difference but it is more efficant.

 

How do u change it to NSTF or w/e. lol, um this has happened since ive owned it, 6 months, and yes i do have 1.3 installed

 

All right, i ran a MemTest and had so far gotten 2 erros, out of 35.8% memory that was tested, on the second error it had said "Memory error detected copying between word pairs# 46180652 and 46180565"...hope that narrows somethings down i still need help though, im really wanting to upgrade the mobo and processor. and of course ram

 

Okay, bigger problem, after it covers 100% i had up to 6 errors with my ram......

 

Yeh so bad RAM seems to be an issue.

Also, patch 1.3 has caused many a problem for people, this could be the issue.


NTFS is the better for formatting, FAT32 is old and outdated, although used for storage devices.

 

how do i roll back a patch then? or should i even?

 

uninstall it and then only reinstall up to the previous patch
