    System Model: HP Pavilion 061 DT379A-ABA M377N
Motherboard: ASUSTeK Computer INC. 'P4SD-LA' Rev 1.xx
OS: Windows XP Media Center Edition Service Pack 2
    Drives: ASUS CD-S480/AH [CD-ROM drive]
    SCSIVAX DVD/CD-ROM SCSI CdRom Device
3.5" format removeable media [Floppy drive]
Video Card: BFG 6600 GT AGP with latest Nvidia Drivers
    PSU: HIPRO HP-A2027F3 (200 watt)

Problem: My power supply isn't sufficient for my video card.

Details: I recently bought a BFG 6600 GT to replace my ATI Radeon 9200, and everything was working fine until when playing Battlefield 2, my internet shut down. I continued playing and the next day, while playing CoD, my network card and sound card shut off. Then I couldn't boot up my video card.

I realize that my card requires a 350 watt power supply unit. I have a HIPRO psu, which has the wierd dimensions of 5.9W x 3.4H x 3.9L and is only 200 watts. I tried replacing it with another ATX PSU from my old PC but it couldn't fit. When I look on the Antec website, all of their PSUs are 5.9 x 3.4 x 5.4, which is probably the standard.

Question: Is there any PSU that is 400 watts and that fits in my HP PC?

Hi m8 welcome to the Forum :)Awesomely wrote out thread ;) ,first question has your warranty ran out?,you will be able to buy a psu from HP,it will be expensive and still may not have enough power for your 6600gt,I would like to suggest an alternate route, can your motherboard fit into an atx case?If you look inside your old computer do the motherboard mounting holes line up with the ones in your hp,if so it will be more cost effective to move all your parts into an atx case and psu. :)

Yes, unfortunately, my warranty has expired. There is too much crap like ribbons and cables running around my motherboard so I can't tell whether the holes line up. I was searching your forum and found someone who has the exact same PC as me and he upgraded to a 400 watt Antec. I cannot e-mail him to ask him what specific psu he upgraded to and how much it costed him. I love my HP case, and if possible would like to keep it as long as it doesn't cost me 100$ for a new PSU.

We have to work out what the specifications of youe case and psu are to find out what we can put in there her is a table of the current spec psu's

ATX: 6x3.5x5.5", HxWxD. Most common. Uses 4 mounting screws.

Mini-ATX: 5x3.5x5", HxWxD. Rare size. Uses 4 mounting screws. Can be used in a regular ATX case, but often not the other way around.

MicroATX: 5x3x4", HxWxD. Use 3 mounting screws. Not interchangeable with ATX or miniATX.

Flex ATX: Even smaller than Micro ATX. Various sizes according to case specs; often not interchangeable.

just find out which psu you have your specs are 6x3.5X4 ,which looks like a small atx psu,as it is 6 inches wide and 3.5 inched tall, just 1.5 inches shorter,it looks as though an atx will fit in thereis there anything behind the psu that will stop it going in?can you move it?

If not and you have 4 mounting screw holes a mini atx may fit in there, although an inch longer thasn your current psu,can you post the dimensions of the screw holes on the back of your case and are they holes or oblong holes?

I just checked and I believe I have mini ATX because it's about the same dimensions and I have 4 screws. The psu I tried to put in there was ATX, I just looked and it has a huge sticker that says ATX and 300 watts. So I've been looking and I can't find a mini ATX psu.

For some reason there's this cage that blocks you from putting in a large ATX and there's no way to remove it. It's sautered on to the tower...

    ;)
We figured ;) ,I'v had a look around newegg they have hipro psu's,but they are all atx,I cant find a single mini atx psu,I have checked the hipro site aswell, they dont even offer mini atx psu's for retail,I honestly dont think your gonna find a 350 psu, that will fit in there, they just cant physically fit all the wiring in,IMHO the only chance you have is to see what HP can offer you,but be warned ,it will be expensive,it may fry just like your current one has even if it is 400w.

you could skip all this misery by buying a new case for $40 with a half decent bundled psu,"although,I would recommend you buy an enermax noisetaker for $40 and a seperate case for $20",its can be daunting moving all the parts over, but its one of those things you say afterwards it wasnt that bad ;)
