Big computer problem...web access halted.

Hello. I was here a few years ago and had the members here really help me from a homepage hijack. It was the one that you had to remove while being disconnected from the internet. Anyway, as a computer n00b I had no way of knowing what to do and was walked through by instructions posted here.

My friend is experiencing very heavy duty computer problems. She knows computers quite well but this one has her stumped. She knows about malware and keeping her system clean and all but recently she has had something hijack her system to the point where she can't access the internet. She shut the system down and such and tried using an established restore point but the system would freeze when she tried to use a restore point.

Does this sound like any fairly new virus or malware that anyone has heard of? She told me that she can't even send me a hijack this result because every time she hits a link her system pretty much freezes.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

 

Thanks. She ended up using something called Tojan Killer from simplysup.com and says her system is pretty much back to normal. She says it was a Rootkit file which is something that I am not familiar with.
