So I'll try to be as clear and concise as possible.

    The problem :
My desktop is having huge problems right now. It used to start and work normally. Then one day, while I was playing around in Lightroom 3, it crashed. Screen freeze, turns black, then goes to "Digital power saving mode" where the screen is all black and stays that way no matter what I do. So I shut the computer off, restart it and it works again.

Then later that day or a week after, it will do the same thing but give me a blue screen of death saying that "LGdispdrv driver is caught in an infinite loop". Then I shut the computer off and start it again.

Or at least it used to be that way. It had been a couple of months since it last crashed like that but it did it again 3 days ago. I decided that it might just be time for a format so I started to make a good complete backup and asked my girlfriend to do the same. Unfortunately, the crashes became worst and worst before we managed to back up everything.

Now when I boot the computer, most of the time the screen will stay in "Digital power saving mode" which is the same mode it goes in when the computer is closed.

When it does go on, I have access to BIOs if I want to, then it usually (not all the time) offers me which version of windows I want to run (normal, last working, a 3 types of safe mode). I tried normal and last working and now they both just bring me back to the "power saving mode". I went into the bios but I don't know what to do from there, I haven't tried safe mode since I don't know what to do from there either.

    Info about the computer :

    OS : windows XP
Motherboard : Asus P5GD2 (99% sure, looking at pictures pretty much confirms it)
    Videocard : ATI Radeon X700
Display screen : LG Flatron w2053TQ
I'm using the white plug to connect the screen. I've tried switching to the blue one, but it didn't change anything.

    Things I've tried :

    Rebooting
Updating to the most recent drivers available on LG's website
Scanning for viruses (with anti-virus and with Hijackthis)
Opening the whole computer case and using a regular fan to help cool the processor.
Used compressed air to remove dust to help with the cooling

Thanks in advance, I'm in dire need for help.

Well, although I didn't get an answer here, I got some advice at some other website. Turns out my hard drive was dying on me. I ran the appropriate tool and it detects many error. It is trying to fix them but doesn't seem to do such a good job. I'm still crossing my fingers and hope that I will get to back up my data, but I don't have that much hope. Now is time to invest in a new hard drive and whole new computer soon.

So basically : Unless someone has advices on repairing the hard drive (it's a seagate barracuda and I'm running Seatools on it at the moment), I guess this thread can be closed.

    Hi

Pity on the dying HDD, but its possible at times to be able to if you can run the dying HDD as a slave on another PC and try either a recovery app like Recuva (other data recovery apps HERE)or try and its good for 15 days the trial of Acronis True Image, as creating its recovery bootdisk and then booting to the recovery disk can allow you to backup a HDDs data as I have done this many a time, do need another HDD to save the data too though opposed to saving to the affected disk.
