I liked the contrast with the less exposed.

    Here's an f8, 1/60
    and f8, 1/30

Would have liked to have seen an F/22 at 1/10th. ;)

F22? Being mostly a macro photographer, I'm hard pressed to close up my aperture that much. I'll try again with that setting.

What do you think that would have given me?

I use to shoot fireworks with that setting. It helps with depth of field. But with fireworks, I would leave the aperture open for seconds. Even with macro shots, you want to increase your depth of field as much as possible.

I also use to shoot bugs. Again, with as much depth of field as possible. It required me to put them in the freezer for a while and then set the stage and shoot. Usually took about 5 minutes under lights before they started to move again. LOL

hmmm...I'll try it next time. I did some research and for the most part, the recommended aperture was f8 to around f16, so I didn't go over that. I prefer shooting a less than full moon. I think you get more detail and shadow on it.

As far as my macro....lol..not a chance. I generally don't go over f4.5. I don't shoot bugs though. I'd probably change it for that.

No, even for close up of flowers and such, you need to set at at least F/16. Otherwise you end up with a pistol in focus and the rest not. I hate pictures in magazines that show a cake and only one spot on the cake is in focus. You should try playing with smaller apertures and longer shutter speeds!! :major

I'll agree to disagree with you on that one. ;) That's my style of choice. Usually I'm on f2.8 or f3...:-D

Since you are using digital, you aren't wasting film and processing by experimenting. Try putting a background cloth behind a flower and set a flash to backlight it. Then use a small aperture and bracket your exposure. Play!! ;)

Ha! I have. lol I've used background cloth, a light box. I've used backlighting, sidelighting, natural lighting. Etc, etc.:major

I haven't experimented much with the moon though, so will be doing that.

I'm not sure there's any correct exposure on that one. :-D

Nice shots of the moon Laura, mine did not turn out well. I forgot to buy film for my manual camera. I can, well, I used to be able to run that one fast on multiple settings. The digital, well, I am a bit slow with that one. ;)

Was fun to dust off the old tripod and play around some.

    :) Thanks Fred.

lol...someone convinced me a while ago to invest in a good tripod. Was a great investment.

I have an old K-Mart brand tripod, most likely from the '70's. I love it.

If you can get one of those moon photos up at a good quality, I would love to use one as a background for my 'puter.

I shoot in RAW so my original files are huge. lol... I'm not sure I can use MGs file system for it.

This isn't too bad. You'll have to crop it.

Thanks, but is massively pixelated. PM sent shortly.

Well, thanks, but all are showing up massively pixelated. Will have to ponder that, they look good on the Major Geeks site. I need Photoshop back...
