    Hello
Trying to bring my daughters old laptop back into service for a game I just got. Thought I would update drivers and such from Dell Support.
All fine until Bios Update. Screen froze. Waited like an hour, to power down, had to remove power source and Battery. On restart, lights flash across top of keyboard, the the Mute, volume up and down flash for about 15 seconds, keyboard lights up, then unit shuts off.

    Dell Studio CPS M1640
    Previous Bios Ver A11 (10/9/2010)

Can I return to old Bios or is it Bricked?
    Thank you
    Mike

2 options. Removing battery won't always help.
There should be a jumper there where you short it out by using the jumper to connect the 2 points and then put it back where it was.
Optionally, get the latest BIOS from Dell and try to update it. But do that second as BIOS updates are only if it addresses an issue you're having specifically. I believe this is your BIOS here: http://www.dell.com/support/home/us/en/04/Drivers/DriversDetails?driverId=R301708
