BIOS ? problem - bootup display on external only

    Acer 1692 laptop; Centrino; WinXT home, all upgrades; BIOS Phoenix S3A18

    Yesterday morning, for no obvious reason, the display during POST and BIOS password was through the external VGA socket, NOT using the normal screen.

    After WinXP starts it displays using the normal laptop screen and everything runs fine.

    I cannot see where to amend a setting to display the BIOS POST normally on the inbuilt screen.

    Acer say I need to send the PC to them for major repair. Can that be right?
