Well I want to buy an 200gb hd, a friend told me that I need to update my BIOS to be sure that all can be handled, well I have an AMD-k7, the dxdialg says:
    Processor: AMD-K7, mmx, 3dnow, ~700mhz

Under the system handler thing, I can see that I have installed something called AMD-751 Processor to AGP controller, if that helps.

I have been in AMD's homepage and their update side, but I cant see wich thing I shall download to update the BIOS

    http://www.amd.com/us-en/Processors/TechnicalResources/0,,30_182_871_2336,00.html

    Running under WinXP

Can someone help me with what I must d\l to update it?

    Lets backup...

There used to be an old BIOS problem years ago, but that was to see hard drives over 8 gigs or so, I am unaware of any other similar problems, but its possible. I assume your friend meant this, also, I am suprised he didnt help you better understand how to flash your BIOS.

Heres the problem. Your BIOS update is specific to your motherboard, AMD is simply the processor places on the motherboard. Everything else plugs into the motherboard, it is the heart of your machine. The BIOS tells your machine what hardware you have and what it is capable of doing. So, your looking in the wrong area. AMD and even the BIOS manufacturer (usually Award or AMI in your case) cant help you here, only the company that makes your motherboard.

What you need is to know what make and model your motherboard is. You may have the manual, otherwise, you might need to get a flashlight and look on the motherboard hoping to find out what it is. We may have some tools to do this for you, let us know if you cant find the motherboard name and ill suggest some tools.

Once you find your motherboard , check their website for BIOS updates and check the history to see what is fixed on the new BIOS releases. If there is not a problem with your machine that the BIOS update fixes, then most people would tell you not to flash.

Flashing your BIOS is really simple and for the most part harmless with some basic knowledge. If you can find your motherboard manufacturer, check back and ill help you through it.

ok the bios you need to find our your motherboard manufacutre. That is, asus, pcchips (yuk), abit, etc. You go to the manufacturers website then find out what you need to update.

Tell us what it is and it will help.

@ Hass : I do believe even the latest Mobo's have a problem with HDD over 137Gb which requires a simple Flash of the BIOS to cure.

As for Mobo files, check out THIS for all your system/hardware drivers.

BIOS Flash file and AWDFlash utility HERE

Make sure to at least split it in two when you partition it. Windows can have trouble with huge drives

Thats correct. Asus has a Windows updater you should be able to do this from Windows. Asus Live Update or something similar.
