HEy guys....My computer crashed lest night and now when I turn it on I get nothing except a few extra beeps. The monitor stays blank so I am suspecting that bios is messed up??? Any suggestions on what I should do?

    Thanks,
    Jason

    Hi Jason
    Welcome to Major Geeks :major

the beeps you are hearing are actually
    error beep codes
    different combinations pinpoint different issues

It depends on your motherboard / bios as to what these codes mean

    you can try 'googling'
    your motherboard and beep codes

    ie: mine would be

    D850GB beep codes

otherwise let us know the make and model of your motherboard
and what the beep code sequence is

ie: short beep, short beep, pause, long beep, long beep

This is the mother board info and it is from a gateway computer ..... intel (Nimitz) Pentium 4 - 1.8 GHz (400MHz) R3 [Part #2518050]

Not sure how to find the error codes for it......2 long beeps and then 6 short beeps.

    Thanks,
    Jason

    Hi

It would be helpful if you download and instal this program
    Everest
    http://www.majorgeeks.com/EVEREST_Free_Edition_d4181.html
Its a very handy freeware program for system info

    Once installed
    Start the program
click on 'Computer' in the right pane
and then 'Summary' in the right pane

    right click on 'motherboard name'
    select copy
and then paste it into this thread

    right click on 'bios type'
    select copy
and then paste it into this thread

it may also be handy if you can find a model number for your gateway computer
    ie:
    Gateway DX420

Right but I am not on the computer with the problem. Nothing will load on that one not even bios........Just the beeps and a blank screen

    Good point

Do you know the Gateway model number ?

Is it still under warrantee ?

    Is it a laptop or a desktop/tower ?

The details you supplied previously were for the CPU, not the motherboard
Are you comfortable with opening it up to find the motherboard make and model ?
If you are, the make and model should be written approximately in the middle of the motherboard.

Different computers use different error codes, as of yet I have not been able to find a code that matches the one you posted.

These codes relate to things like
RAM, graphics card, PSU and motherboard issues etc

If you are confident, you can remove and then reinsert your
    Memory (RAM)
    and your graphics card
    (it could be that simple)

if so, make sure you follow anti-static procedures as laid out in this simple guide
    http://www.wikihow.com/Avoid-Destroying-a-Computer-With-Electrostatic-Discharge

If you are lucky someone else may post who is familiar with gateway computers and this particular error code

I entered in the serial number on the gateway website and it specified the original motherboard as I had put... it also put down the codes but I am confused....2 short then 6 long....They just gave number of beeps...1,2,3,4,etc.....
