I have tried to update my BIOS a few months ago when i was upgrading parts. For the life of me I couldn't get anything to work, I went to sites given and no luck at all. When I first got my puter it was pretty bad by anyones standards...dont ask...lol...

    BIOS Type AMI
    System BIOS Date 09/11/02
    Video BIOS Date 07/23/20

    BIOS Manufacturer
    Company Name American Megatrends Inc.
    Product Information http://www.ami.com/amibios
    BIOS Upgrades http://www.esupport.com/biosagent/index.cfm?refererid=40

    Motherboard ID 63-0100-000001-00101111-091102-iBRKDL_G$RG84510A_BIOS DATE: 09/11/02 09:52:52 VER: 08.00.05

    Motherboard Name Intel Rexburg D845GRG

Also, I replaced a stick of 128 with a 512 and I still seem to lag-a-lot. I have good cleaning programs / anit viruse /spy wear ect.. and try to keep things updated...any ideas Please =)

So I gather the Bios update was succesful... and your saying that it is still running slow ?? Have you updated your chipset ?? if not here's a link ....
    http://www.intel.com/support/chipsets/sb/cs-009236.htm
Can you be a bit more specific with your problem ie. Problems before Bios Upgrade and now, the more you tell us the more help you will attract. ;)

Nope it wouldnt update so i left it....lol...ill check out the chipset and get back to ya though...

I've checked out the link you gave, I couldn't find the right chipset number and name.
I couldn't even find the mother board name. I've checked out the manufacturer's site,
got the update ( which there was 2 you could chose from ) and it wouldn't update with either.
I've been trying to get my puter to run more smoothly and update the hardware /
software. I get alot of lag when I have a few programs running ie : in voice / camming,
net surfing, photo editing, yahell games...ect... I have programs that are eating up
    CPU that shouldn't be.
When I first got this puter it had 1 stick of 128 mg of ram and a 20 gb hard drive. I've
added a fan, a 512 stick in and put a slave drive in and now have 60 gb of hard drive, although we all know its not the hard drive thats making me lag...lol... Anyway, I've been getting a forever never ending windows that I can't close down, can't left or right click on the window to escape it or get the process explorer up so i can shut it down that way.
( thats mainly yahell messenger ims that do that.) I dont run too many programs at once, everything just freezes up and or runs slow. I have cable so i know its not connections problems, and that gets reset every so often. Things just run really crappy lately.

This a stickler .. Have you been to BIOS & checked all settings including correct voltage using the Mobo Manual.. You haven't mentioned what Operating System you are using.. Maybe an OS 'Repair' is called for..

Toke has suggested a Windows repair, and it is very possible that it could help.
I have checked around, and Have I got this right..........

    You are using 640mb DDR ram, socket 478, two harddrives (40gb +20gb)? 5400, 0r, 7200 speed?
Windows XP?- we assume, but is it 2000, ME, 98 ?

A suggestion - antivirus / AVG?+ Adobe add on in Explorer+Apache - all have given similar problems with an update- It is worth trying uninstallingthe latest updates, or re-installing antivirus software, or, disabling add ons in Explorer/Firefox, to see if they are causing problems.

If you are using XP-SP2 is the SP2 intergrated with the OS or was it a XP-SP1 then upgraded to SP2. Reason I am saying this is recently I added a SP2 to a XP SP1 and it caused all sorts of havoc and had to uninstall to stabalise.

This computer came with SP1. Upgraded it to SP2 three times, and reformated twice. Before SP2 I never had so much problems with lag, or have had a memory errors as I do now. I can't recall what CPU usage was before I started learning how to do my own stuff on here. I am sure enough well aware of things that run on here now, and how it runs now vs. before.
I'll check out re-installing SP1 and get back to you a.s.a.p., might take a few days though. (or when I get the time to)

"Flashing the bios can fail if USB devices are left connected whilst attempting the process."
I have wireless key board and mouse, cam and had the printer all plugged in....would that have caused the update for the BIOS fall?
