    Hello ALL,
I'm NEW here, so I'm not sure if this is the right place to post my problem. But here goes...

My computer has been running fine but from time to time it will shut down by itself. I can here it like it is processing data...my computer slows down to a halt...then a blue screen comes up saying there has been some sort of error.

The computer proceeds to reset but when it is starting back up I have no choice but to hit f2 to go into bios.

I'm sorry I can't be more specific as it doesn't happen all the time. It did happen today and yesterday. My anti virus subscription was up today so I renewed it and scanned the computer, I had it clean up and remove old/broken regristries. Once in a while the computer slows down like there is a program running behind the scenes and I'm afraid the computer is going to restart again.

Does this sound familiar to anyone? What more can I do to ensure my computer is virus/malware free. I cannot afford to have my computer infected because I have full time classes online.

Thanks for any help anyone can suggest.

    Hi and Welcome to Majorgeeks

To work out what your issue is we would really need to know the Blue Screes error message in full as it has codes that link to specific problems. It could be a hardware issue, possibly a corrupt driver or even a heat issue, but the codes can link to any of these areas.

If your using a laptop, make sure the cooling vents are not covered, also for both desktop and laptop, check the vents are few from dust, you can use this software to check temps Everest Free once installed and run click Computer > Sensor and tell us the temps after say an hour of normal use or at time of a crash.

    Which Windows version you using?

What is make and model of PC ( say Dell, HP etc )?

But to rule out malware infection as the cause of this and it may not be malware relatedm do please follow th ebelow and attach the requested logs to a post in this thread,

Please follow the instructions in the below link and attach the requested logs when you finish these instructions.

    Hi,

Thanks for your post. Well, it seems like the resetting of my computer is happening more and more, for reasons unknown to me. I copied what information I could...

    American Megatrends
    press <f8> for BBS popup
    DDR Frequency 320 Mhz
    Single-channel or virtual single channel
    Checking NvRam..
    1024 Mb OK

    Auto-Detecting Pri Master...IDE Hard Disk
    Auto-Detecting Sec Master...Atapi CD-Rom
    Auto-Detecting Sec Slave... Atapi CD-Rom

    Pri Master: 15.05R15 WDC WD1200 BB-98WAO
Ultra DMA Mode 5, S.M.A.R.T. Capable but command Failed

Sec Master: 2.0d Sony DVD RW DW-U12A
    Ultra DMA Mode-2

    Sec Slave: A101 Samsung CD-Rom SC-1400
    Ultra DMA Mode-2

    Auto-Detect USB Mass Storage Devices..
00 USB Mass Storage devices found and configured

Pri Master Hard Disk: S.M.A.R.T. Command Failed
    press F2 to resume

That is what is coming up at start up. I push F2 and BIOS comes up. The system I am using is a Sony VAIO Intel Pentium 4 2.8Ghz 1.0G Ram Windows XP 2002

That information is not from a blue screem error message. That is your system bios text that appears at each boot up and is normal other than maybe this Pri Master Hard Disk: S.M.A.R.T. Command Failed

However problems with BIOS settings are not an issue for the Malware Forum. If you are having problems with the BIOS, I suggest you post in the Hardware Forum. If you are having malware problems you need to do what Halo already gave you in message # 2 and then attacht the requested logs if still having a problem afterwards.
