1. England won the World Cup in football/soccer
2. The Russian Luna 9 spacecraft was the first spacecraft to achieve a lunar soft landing and to transmit photographic data to earth
3. The title of the Byrds hit in this year was "Eight Miles High"

well seeing as i dont like sports i will post the 3 things from my birth year(1985) haha

1 - the LA Raiders stomped the Redskins 38 - 9 in the Super Bowl. Not much of a football fan now, but the Raiders were my team when I was smaller.

2 - Carlo Rubbia and Simon van der Meer discover two sub-atomic particles (W and Z) that transmit the weak force, and receive the nobel prize in physics for their work. One step closer to a TOE.

3 - Too many to list just one.....first female spacewalk (Svetlana Savitskaya), first time two women were on a shuttle mission (Challenger), number 2 in this list...umm...oh, and who can forget Vanessa Williams surrendering her Miss America title after Penthouse printed nude pictures of her? haha.
