BitDefender-Is it supposed to take this long?

I am trying to work my way through the "Read this first" directions and have gotten to running bitdefender. I have a fairly new (3 months) Gateway laptop, which is running windows xp with service pack 2. I was unable to figure out how to run in safe mode with online access, so I went back into regular mode and started running it about 2 hours ago and now it is almost half way through the 45000 or so files but has slowed down to about a file a minute.

Should I keep going or give up? If I give up, how do I run in safe mode with access to the bitdefender program?

    Help, please.

Okay, I would have just edited this, but there is no edit button. (One more thing I don't understand.) I stopped the bitdefender scan, disabled and reenabled my connection, ran it again and this time it finished in a little over an hour. Didn't find any problems.

New problem. I am trying to run Panda ActiveScan and I get as far is the download message, green progress bar at about half, and it hangs up on the please wait while the download finishes. Aahhhh! This is taking all day!

I will try again, but is there something simple I am missing? I did do the active x thingy.

    Welcome to Majorgeeks!

Skip Panda and attach the other requested logs from the READ ME:
    • CounterSpy - ONLY IF you were not able to run Windows Defender
    • runkeys.txt - the log from GetRunKey.bat
    • newfiles.txt - the log from ShowNew.bat
    • HijackThis

I did skip the pandascan and I went through the other steps, but my original problem, which was that the cpu usage jumped to 100% about every 20 seconds and stayed there for 5 seconds or so, seems to have gone away. I don't know why, though, since every scan I did run came up empty.

I have attached HJT log and the bitddefender log,

And I also attached the Getrunkey and here is the ShowNew log. Please take a look and let me know if there is anything else I need to get rid of. I don't want whatever it was to come back.

Thank you very much for your help. This site has been a great help already.

Okay, everything else still seems to be working fine, but when I boot up I get a message that says "Active Shield Resource Dll is missing. Please reinstall the application." I use Trend Micros antivirus protection, as well as Webroot Spysweeper. I have un/reinstalled both of them. I don't know where this is coming from.

You installed HJT on your Desktop. This is exactly where we specify not to install it. Please install it as suggested.

Is your copy of SpySweeper a paid version? If yes then uninstall Windows Defender.

You appear to have stuff from McAfee still try to load even though you now use Trend Micro. Let's fix this and a few other things.

Make sure viewing of hidden files is enabled (per the tutorial).
Now Copy the bold text below to notepad. Save it as fixWLK.reg to your desktop. Be sure the "Save as" type is set to "all files" Once you have saved it double click it and allow it to merge with the registry.
Now Run HijackThis and select the following lines but DO NOT CLICK FIX until you exit all browser sessions including the one you are reading in right now:
    O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [VirusScan Online] c:\PROGRA~1\mcafee.com\vso\mcvsshld.exe
    O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [OASClnt] "C:\Program Files\McAfee.com\VSO\oasclnt.exe"
    O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [MSKDetectorExe] C:\PROGRA~1\McAfee\SPAMKI~1\MSKDetct.exe /startup
    O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [MSKAGENTEXE] C:\PROGRA~1\McAfee\SPAMKI~1\MskAgent.exe
    O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [msci] C:\DOCUME~1\Owner\LOCALS~1\Temp\200651563614_mcinfo.exe /insfin
    O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [MPFExe] C:\PROGRA~1\McAfee.com\PERSON~1\MpfTray.exe
    O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [MCUpdateExe] c:\PROGRA~1\mcafee.com\agent\mcupdate.exe
    O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [McRegWiz] c:\PROGRA~1\mcafee.com\agent\mcregwiz.exe
    O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [MCAgentExe] c:\PROGRA~1\mcafee.com\agent\mcagent.exe
    O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [McafWelcome] c:\PROGRA~1\mcafee.com\agent\mcwelcom.exe
    O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [Cleanup] C:\DOCUME~1\Owner\LOCALS~1\Temp\200651563616_mcappins.exe /v=3 /cleanup

    After clicking Fix, exit HJT.
Boot into safe mode and use Windows Explorer to delete
    :
    C:\Program Files\McAfee.com <--- the whole folder
    C:\WINDOWS\system32\ActiveScan <--- the whole folder

Now run Ccleaner (installed while running the READ ME FIRST).

Now reboot in normal mode and post a new HJT log.

Make sure you tell me how things are working now.
