Bitdefender updates failed

    Anything I can do about this? Maybe I'm doing something wrong. I hit the I agree button and then scan, but the updates fail. Is there any point in scanning without the updates?

    Try this!

    From within IE click Tools and then select where it says
    Uninstall Bitdefender Online Scanner

    Then reconnect to the online site and go thru the normal process to use the scanner. It should have to download the files again since it was uninstalled.

    Hi Chas,
    I found two things relating to Bitdefender in the tools of IE. One is the active X files, which are stored. When I tried to update this, it gave me the message that the Active X I have is newer than the one installed in this list under tools/programs/add-ons.
    The second BitDefender entry I have is under IE/Tools/General/Temporary Internet Files/Settings/Show Objects. There I even found some entries for Symantec from 2005. Are either the add-ons or these settings things I can safely delete?
    I can repost this in Software if you'd prefer.

    Do you use Bitdefender for a full antivirus program? Or did you only use the online scanner from them? Did you find the uninstall menu selection that I mentioned and did you use it?

    Chas,
    thanks. I deleted the entry from the show objects list under temporary files in the IE tools and that seems to have done the trick. The scan updated and is running now. Thanks so much! :)

    Good! I would have expected the uninstall to do the same thing. If it did not, another easy method it to fix the lines that show in a HijackThis (as missing - but that is wrong). This deletes the same file you deleted.
