    Hello Win 8.1 Pro
I have never used Bit locker.
I noticed it and it seems straight forward.
Is the password they refer to the MS password i am using to access my PC and if so what happens when I change passwords?
Is it advisable and customary? Are there any draw backs?
    Thank you
    Peter

Good, easy to follow article HERE peter. It's written for Win 7 but largely reads across to 8.

I tried to enable bit locker but it said TPM was not enabled. I went to the older BIOS to 'security' and saw boot ?security was disabled.

Is this what I should enable?

I have a recovery partition which I created when I reinstalled the operating system.

I did not write terms down as I went along so some may not be exact.

What should I look for to see if I can use bit locker?

TPM is a required chip your computer doesn't have peter so you won't be able to use bitlocker.

EDIT - seems you might be able to employ a workaround, see HERE. At your own risk!

Thanks for the tutorial; it worked . I thought you would like to know and hopefully other readers without the platform can do the same if they wish. Incidentally, one must use a flash drive to create a password.

Well done. Never used BitLocker myself as for the few files I have that I want encrypted I've always used Cryptainer LE. Apart from those few I want my files, and their backups, kept in readable form. I don't relish having a serious system problem and finding my backups are unreadable.

Is your program something someone at my level would appreciate.

Absolutely! When you run it it creates an encrypted container anywhere on your hard disk or network you want with any name you want and with a password of your choice, strong obviously. The container is given a drive letter so it appears as a drive in My Computer when the program is running. You can create new files on that drive or move files that you want encrypted from regular storage to the drive. When you close Cryptainer all your files are encrypted and the drive disappears entirely from My Computer. Its container file is still on your hard disk in the same location with the name you gave it. But the only way it can be opened is with Cryptainer and your password. Encryption doesn't get any simpler or less dangerous.
