Compaq Presario V2000 Laptop - WinXP Home SP3 - IE6 - here's the deal.... the PC shuts off in under 2 minutes after connecting to the internet in normal mode. It turns off, as in COMPLETELY OFF. No power. However, in safe mode, I can surf for hours. What's up with that?? I'm gonna install IE8 and see if that makes a difference, and I'll post the results. Regardless of whether that fixes the issue or not, I'd still like to know why it would power off instantly w/o warning in normal mode, but works fine in safe mode.
    THANKS!

Check to see that some sort of program is not set to check for updates then shut off when it is done. (mail programs can do this)
Open task manager to see what tasks run in normal mode (as soon as you connect to the internet) and compare this to what runs in safe mode.
