black crosses on Windows page

    I have had this problems a few times on Windows 8 when some of the "gems" show little black crosses in the bottom right hand corner. see attachement. How can I stop this happening please. When I click on the individual item I have to go into store and reinstall, and this can take some 30 minutes.
