This black dialog box popping up on my computer C:\\WINDOWS\System32\svchost.exe. Can someone tell me WHY this keeps popping up and how to STOP it? Should I run MSCONFIG (could be a startup/program issue?)? I use Windows XP Professional and have Super Antispyware and MS Security Essentials as antivirus/malware and use Glary Utilities for cleaning.

Silly me! Forgot to add the screenshot. If I only had a brain some days!

There are usually several svchost processes running, which is normal. It would be very hard to figure out which one is causing a problem.
Do not try and fix it with msconfig.

Strange that there is no info inside the black box giving more information.
Search in C;\Windows\system32 for svchost.exe. When you find it, right click and select properties. What is the version and what is the size.

Try process explorer as mentioned in the article to track down the problem

Downloaded and ran Process Explorer. Attached is a screenshot. Every once in a while, there will be text in the dialog box but so far I haven't been quick enough with Screenshot Captor to get an image. Will keep trying and post one when I finally succeed!

It looks okay. It is not malware; that's why I asked for version and size. ;)

    Notes for me:
    PIDs of svchost running
    1088 (wmiprvse) Windows Management Instrumentation
    1148 nothing under it
    1228 (wuauclt) Windows Update
    1336 (nothing under it)
    1560 (nothing under it)

Try pressing the pause key to see if the DOS box freezes.
It's been so long since I used it, I don't remember if that will work.
