Black Hole on Laptop.

Last week my laptop was badly infected with malware/virus, I have managed to remove these using various programmes, mainly SAS, Spybot S&D. However they have left their mark,
1. AVG will not update, removed and reinstalled, no change.
2. From Start, nothing much visible there, Run missing, also Control Panel.
3. C drive not visible in My Computer, but can be seen thro' Network.
4. Done a System repair with the XP installation disc, nothing replaced.
5. Will not boot into Safe mode, just hangs.
6. Tried SDFix, but as cannot see Run, or boot to Safe mode.
7. All system Restore points gone.

Pretty grim, I could do a reinstall, but that is the easy way out, I love a challenge. However, I am up gainst the wall, any advice or help would be greatly appreciated.

If something does not run, write down the info to explain to us later but keep on going.

If you run into problems trying to run the READ & RUN ME or any of the scans in normal boot mode. You can running steps in safe boot mode but make sure you tell us what you did later when you post logs. See the below if you do not know how to boot in safe mode:

Starting your computer in Safe mode

If you have problems downloading on the problem PC, download the tools on another PC and burn to a CD. Then copy them to the problem PC. You will have to skip getting updates if (and only if) your internet connection does not work. Yes you could use a flash drive too but flash drives are writeable and infections can spread to them.
