For all you serious off shore fisher folk. The 40th Anniversary of Black Marlin fishing off Cairns, Australia, will be celebrated In Cairns in late September.

5 famous people will be inducted into the opening Hall of Fame.
One name that all nearly will know is the late Lee Marvin.

    Now THAT's a great fish story. :)

Would be nice, but sure can't make it. Catch one for me Baz, if you're going to participate.

Well out of my means, when the likes of Greg Norman and others participate. But I'll watch the sailpast when the multi-million dollar boats set sail for the marlin grounds. Bazza

I envy you Bazza, you live in an angler's heaven.

For those not familiar with far north Queensland, it would have some of the best saltwater fishing (and freshwater to a lesser extent) in the world.

Pristine water full of quality fish, and great weather as well.

What a life, I'm seriously considering selling one day and moving up there.

I love to watch the marlin fishing competitions on TV. It would be even more awesome to be on one of the boats when they are catching them :D

Me too. It's a very expensive pastime though, so I'll probably never get to try it..

Just the fishing gear alone costs a fortune, not to mention the boat and equipment.

You'd better be quick. Home and unit prices have gone ridiculously high in the last 2-3 years. They are asking AUD$300,000 on upwards for new single bedroom units in the city nowadays. Bazza

You'd have to be kidding? $300 000 for a single bedroom flat, I could buy the same in Sydney!

Sounds pretty much the same prices as we were paying in the southwest of England before I bailed out. London is even more expensive!

Yeah but you can buy the same in Sydney for that, and Sydney has far more inflated real estate prices (for real estate, it's some of the most expensive in the world).

I'd expect that from a capital city, but not from Cairns.

But who'd want to live in Sydney? Not me. Too cold right now.

My sons have just gone to Emu Plains for a family re-union, with lots of USA guests making the trip.

This price is for brand new units right in the city heart, or by the seaside in the city.

A few kilometres out of the city, established units are much cheaper. You can still get suburban houses for that price, or less.

I wasn't comparing Sydney in terms of lifestyle, but in terms of the housing market.

Sydney is Australias most expensive city by far.

Brand new or not, $300 000 is expensive for that area.

Bloody Southerners migrating here, and bumping up the prices. Bazza
