help pls for the past week after upgrading vista 32bit home premium to windows 7 32bit on an Toshiba Equium P300-16T Model number: PSPC2E there seems to be now that everytime I boot up the system I get the Toshiba logo and get the BIO by pressing F2 or F12 to multi boot. After that the screen goes black. In the BIO's DVD/CD Rom drive and HDD show they are active and showing they are available as a selection in the BIO's.

I have tried using a Vista (original) Boot CD to re-install plus an XP Home Premium CD (original) to re-boot the system via internal and external CD Rom drives unsure if something critically wrong with bootable but it seems to try read the CD and then stops thats when the black screen appears. Is there a way to get to the partition that stores the Toshiba drivers and recovery data on the partition through DOS for example? If so any ideas I have been looking through google etc and can't seem to find anything except for payable stuffs... there must be a way :0) help is appreciated thanks in advance. Cos lots of sleep lost over this and at the moment I am unable to purchase a new laptop I am definately sure the problem is actually fixable its just trying to get the right people to give me the advice on this. Thanks :confused

This procedure will restore you back to a factory state with Vista as the OS. Backup any files that you need before you do this because all files and programs added will be gone.

Do you need to back up any data? Because you cannot boot to Windows, you will either have to install the Hard drive into another computer, use a USB adapter, or boot to a linux distro and copy your files to an external hard drive.

thank you for looking into it but unfortunatly when i do this nothing happens :cry last night i removed and checked the ram and cold booted today before trying a few times with the info you gave me

i have just removed the hdd to see if i could boot from boot disks eg linex xp vista and they all boot from cd with hdd removed wtf??

do I have to format the hdd and install an other OS and how do I do this on one computer? I have two hdd slots in my laptop if this helps. I am going to try putting this into the second slot and get back to you all with my findings. In the meantime all help would be greatly appriciated :0)

Not sure what you mean by "tried HDD in the HDD2 port and same thing happened"? Did you try this in a USB adapter? Also, if you plan on using a Linux Live Cd, I would recommend you give Puppy 5.2.8 a try. I have found that Puppy is very good at finding wireless. Who is the manufacturer of the drive?

Did you try the procedure I referenced in my previous post?

Sarajane, many times the antispam software used by the forum removes posts with little things like ..... that join words together.

If a post doesn't appear for you again, try re-phrasing it, it might get through.

I think you do have a bad HDD that is hanging up POST (hardware identification at power on). The laptop cannot identify the HDD properly and is hanging there. I think you have to replace the HDD. I don't think there is any other fix for it.

Edit: Just to be sure I have read that correctly. With the HDD installed you can't boot from HDD or CD. You just get stuck at the black screen after the Toshiba logo? But with HDD removed you can boot from CD with no problem.
