Blank disks problem

I a running an XP machine with 2 GB memory. In April I bought a new Samsung DVD DL. I bought Nero 9 and was having fun burning. As of May 25 that stopped. It will not recognize blanks disk when inserted, not even through windows. It'll play burned and new disks. Through windows I can't even get it to eject the tray. I have re-installed Nero 9, the drive, swept for malware and such. I did have aproblem with a trojan and got it fixed. It is a sata drive. Very frustrated at this point and could use some help. Oh yeah I heard that ITunes 8 causes problems with burners involviing their limits, don't know if it is true; but I have read similar complaints on line.

Try removing the drive from the Device Manager, then restart the PC; right click My Computer > Properties > Hardware tab > Device Manager. Click the little plus sign next to CD/DVDROM Drives; right click the drive you're having issues with and select Uninstall. The close everything and restart the PC. I don't use Nero9 or iTunes (I use Nero6 and I'm tune-less) so I can't advise on those. If the suggestion above doesn't help, let us know and we'll try some other things. Good luck!

 

Hmm I think I tried that but I am not suire if I rebooted the system. I'll try it and get back to you. Thanks.

 

It has to be software (I think) I put my onld SONY in and the machine saw that it was there but when I tried to access it through many different types of burners, Win Med, VSO avi- DVD, TMPEnc it kept giving the drive:/ is not available or it was an illegal function. Any ideas anybody? Would re-installing windows help?
