Try plugging the laptop into a monitor and see if it comes up with a display. Your computer may not be posting, in which case you may try and re-seat the RAM. (take the RAM out and put it back in)

I already tried another monitor and no go, I also reseated the ram and the hard drive and still no luck.

I would try removing all removable devices (battery, cd-rom, wireless card, hard drive) and also putting in a stick of known good RAM (you have one of those don't you). Also keep it plugged into a monitor. If it still does not give you a display when you start it and no beep codes, you probably have a bad motherboard or processor. Probably a bad processor if it will not boot, but if that is the case, it could have been the motherboard that fried it.

I haven't looked up beep codes in a while. Maybe try and google "gateway beep codes"

could it possibly be the bios battery or the video card ?

When you say 'blank', is the screen totally blank, or is there a blinking cursor up in the top left corner?

This is what AMI says about 2 short beeps:
Award says it is a RAM problem.

Are you talking about replacing the 2 sticks of ram under the panel underneath ? SHOULDNT THE LAPTOP STILL SHOW SOMETHING WITH THE SIMMS OUT /
ALSO I REPLACED THE BIOS BATTERY AND NOW THERE IS NO BEEPS BUT THE SCREEN IS STILL BLANK>
    Thank you

Well, if the RAM is bad, it could cause your computer to not POST. POST is the self test your bios does before it starts the bootloader (software that boots operating system), and if your computer can not POST, you won't see any display (your POST locks up before BIOS gives you a display). To test for bad RAM, see if you can't get some known good RAM (either new or tested). Take your old RAM out and put the known good RAM in. See if your computer boots.

I meant, if your computer is able to boot with one stick of RAM (some require two), take one stick out, boot with 1 and see what happens. Then take the stick that was in, out of the computer, put the other stick in, boot up and see what happens.

A RAM problem could mean bad RAM or it could mean what is in there isn't seated properly. Sometimes taking it out, cleaning it up and reseating fixes the problem.

    question...when did this first happen?

as it could be a memory problem, try taking one of the sticks of memory out, if you only have one, you may need to order one, easiest way to get memory is from crucial.com, they garuntee that thier memory will work...

And, no the laptop will do nothing without any memory...
