Blinded by the headlights from a plane?

I was sitting out in my backyard last night & I heard a plane. Nothing new, there is an airport just a mile or so away. Anyway.............I look up and I can see it banking to the south, kinda odd being as it was way too low to be attempting a landing from that direction. So........here is this plane..............all of a sudden I can't see anything as the lights are shinging right in my eyes. It was so low that I could actually smell the exhaust as it passed over.

I just found it funny that I got blinded by the lights of a passing airplane.

Crazy... sounds like air traffic might have been trying to stack too low (if it was that low its gotta be below the glideslope....)

 

Well this is only an airport for small planes, but still I've never seen that before. I mean we have planes & helis flying over all the time, but this one was so low that not only could you smell the exhuast, it also made the stuff on my table blow off. It was just too weird.

 

Pilot screwed up. He should have been above 1000 feet until his final approach. Absolute legal minimum is 400 ft. above ground, IIRC, and it sounds like he was a lot lower than that.

 

Up until a couple of years ago, where we lived in Wales wasn't counted as populated so the RAF were allowed down to 100ft. Watching the Hercs go over that low then dip into the valley behinf the house was very cool, especially as they usually go over in formations of 3.

 

atless you dont have a cropduster fly over your house at 7am about 10feet from your roof and i think you ment his landing lights not his headlights

 

Actually I was on the beach in North Wales this summer, great watching the fighters fly overhead

 

Reminded of the time when we were involved in the Gulf War. My son's teacher thought it was Educational to view the CNN live coverage of the war to a group of 1st graders. What an idiot! Well after several minutes of trying to convince my son, that the war was not going to take place on our street, I finally got him smiling when I suggested that we go out and try to learn how to ride the new bike, we just bought him for his birthday. We had been out there for about twenty minutes, when we were overcome by this deafening noise. As we looked up four or five fighter pilots flew overhead. They were so low it frooze us both in our place. My son just looked up at me and said uh huh. LOL This was followed by another discussion, that there was probably some sort of military remembrance or ceremony going on close by. Talk about coincidence!

 

i live about a mile from the primary landing strip at columbus international airport and i get to see about 4-6 planes fly over my house every hour... some of which i bet i could hit with a rock if i stood on top of my house
