    Hi,

I am getting the following message relating to email rejections:

This IP is infected with, or is NATting for a machine infected with Torpig, also known by Symantec as Anserin.

This was detected by observing this IP attempting to make contact to a Torpig Command and Control server at xxx.yyy.zzz.ttt, with contents unique to Torpig C&C command protocols.

Which needless to say makes me believe I have a torpig infection on my Vista SP1 64 bit desktop. I can confirm that from time to time (every few hours) I see my computer connect to one of the torpig addresses the email lists (via monitoring on my gateway).

I have tried using standalone boot CDs from Kapersky, Hirens Boot CD and Bit Defender, as well as scans in safe mode using tdskiller and Malwarebytes AntiMalware.

The only problems reported were from tdskiller that listed 11 unsigned files that looked kosher to me, yet my desktop continues to try to connect to these sites.

Any help would be greatly appreciated!

P.S. If there is any tool that would allw me to detect the EXE that is making the connection, that might also be a great help!

And here are the logs from the standard procedures....MGTools seems to be stalled at "Running analyse.exe", and analyse.exe is doing no IO or CPU

Save this file as CFScript.txt to your desktop. So now you should have both CFScript.txt and ComboFix.exe on your desktop.
Now use your mouse to drag CFScript.txt on top of ComboFix.exe and then release.

    This will launch ComboFix.
Note: Do not mouse-click ComboFix's window while it is running. That may cause it to stall.
Allow ComboFix to update itself if prompted.
When ComboFix finishes, a log will be produced at C:\ComboFix.txt
Attach this log to your next message. (How to attach)

    Hi,

Thanks for the quick response, it is very much appreciated!

I have done all you asked, and the logs are attached.

One question: you asked me to delete 32 bit java versions. I do 32 and 64 bit java development and cross-compiles on this machine. Should I be looking to do that on a different (virtual?) machine in the future, or will it be OK to reinstall 32 bit java (including old versions) later?

    Thanks so much again!

    Bye for now.

It does not look like the CFScript was completely successful, let's try another way.

http://img205.imageshack.us/img205/1894/otl.gif Fix items using OTL by OldTimer

Double-click OTL.exe to run. (Vista/7 right-click and select Run as Administrator)
Shut down your protection software now (antivirus, antispyware...etc) to avoid possible conflicts.
Copy the text in the code box below and paste it into the http://img14.imageshack.us/img14/66/otlcustomfix.png text-field.
    Code:
    [COLOR="DarkRed"]:services [/COLOR]
    63280083
    [COLOR="DarkRed"]:files[/COLOR]
    C:\Users\pjw\AppData\Local\Temp\2be13a81
    C:\Users\pjw\AppData\Local\Temp\86f5dfb1
    C:\Users\pjw\AppData\Local\Temp\8e7b17e
    C:\Users\pjw\AppData\Local\Temp\f283cee8
    c:\windows\system32\drivers\44101869.sys
    c:\windows\system32\drivers\63280083.sys
    dir /s c:\programdata\windows /c
    [COLOR="DarkRed"]:commands[/COLOR]
    [emptytemp]
    [resethosts]

    Now click the http://img3.imageshack.us/img3/407/otlrunfix.png button.
If the fix needed a reboot please do it.
Click the OK button (upon reboot).
When OTL is finished, Notepad will open. Close Notepad.
A log file will be located at C:\_OTL\MovedFiles\mmddyyyy_hhmmss.log, where mmddyyyy_hhmmss is the date of the tool run.
Attach this log to your next message. (How to attach)

You're welcome. How is the system running now?

Well, even when I started this process it was running just fine. The only problem was the calls to C&C servers. And those seem to have stopped, at least for the last 24 hours.

    I do have two questions:

    - the last log seemed to indicate that it could not stop the service

    - should I *not* install 32 bit java again?

    Thanks!

    1. The service must have already been stopped. I am almost positive it was related to Kaspersky but I removed it because you do not have that installed anymore and its service shouldn't just be running in memory.

    2. You can install 32bit Java again. Just be careful with the old versions of Java because malware likes to exploit flaws in them. This is why we recommend you update Java to the latest version.

And thank you once again for an absolutely amazing service!

    You're welcome

If you are not having any other malware problems, it is time to do our final steps:
    1. We recommend you keep SUPERAntiSpyware and Malwarebytes Anti-Malware for scanning/removal of malware. Unless you purchase them, they provide no protection. They do not use any significant amount of resources ( except a little disk space ) until you run a scan.
    2. If we had you use ComboFix, uninstall ComboFix (This uninstall will only work as written if you installed ComboFix on your Desktop like we requested.)
      • Click START then RUN and enter the below into the run box and then click OK. Note the quotes are required
      • "%userprofile%\Desktop\combofix" /uninstall
        • Notes: The space between the combofix" and the /uninstall, it must be there.
        • This will uninstall ComboFix and also reset hidden files and folders settings back to Windows defaults.
    3. Go back to step 6 of the READ ME and renable your Disk Emulation software with Defogger if you had disabled it.
    4. Any other miscellaneous tools we may have had you install or download can be uninstalled and deleted.
    5. If we had you download any registry patches like fixme.reg or fixWLK.reg (or any others), you can delete these files now.
    6. If running Vista, it is time to make sure you have reenabled UAC by double clicking on the C:\MGtools\enableUAC.reg file and allowing it to be added to the registry.
    7. Go to add/remove programs and uninstall HijackThis if it present
    8. Goto the C:\MGtools folder and find the MGclean.bat file. Double click on this file to run this cleanup program that will remove files and folders
related to MGtools and some other items from our cleaning procedures.
    9. If you are running Win 7, Vista, Windows XP or Windows ME, do the below:
      • Refer to the cleaning procedures pointed to by step 7 of the READ ME
for your Window version and see the instructions to Disable System Restore which will flush your Restore Points.
      • Then reboot and Enable System Restore to create a new clean Restore Point.
    10. After doing the above, you should work through the below link:
    Be safe :)
