Ok folks, I've had a blog for a while now but it has never been what one would subscribe as successful. I'm not really certain why that is unless it is merely that no one is truly interested in what I have to say or post there. I'm curious as to what people wish to see in a blog? Please share your insight on what type(s) of content you are interested in reading in a blog and what features you like seeing on a blog. This should be helpful not only to myself but to others here as well.

I have not read your blog but If it true that you are (A Really Great Guy) chances are that your having a pretty good life with not many problems. People are probably interested in trouble makers, misery, stardom & being rich, the stuff that most nice guys don’t come across. Maybe start reading the most popular blog & see what they have to say. You should be able to get some ideas from there blogs. You seem to have no problem here. :)

Try putting it in the websites forum. Personally I don't go to blogs much, I'm glad they exist, but it's not my thing.

I looked at your profile, didn't see it listed, although I could have missed it.

    Hi Jack

Its not that anyone does not wish to read what you have to say or post about, its all down to they do not know you are there, Blogs are now easy to create and with My Space etc etc everyone and sometimes even their cat has one or even multiple ones, so getting yours noticed is really hard.

Think its hit and miss in getting a popular blog....

You can mention it on forums to gain traffic but this in many cases is reguarded as spamming, so not really best option, worthwile always adding it to your forum profile though, I wouldnt concider that as spam on whatever forums your on.

Sometimes worth posting on popular blogs and as many have the option for you to add your homepage to your post you can add it, never know may get a few regulars and if you like those blogs, try requesting to be added as a friend.

If using your own webspace for a blog, create one a basic forward page on LiveSpaces, My Space etc to your main blog, these Blog spaces have indexes that folk may search.

As for content, well they vary vastly from Music, Computing or just about you... its just getting either a mix or creating a neiche in a topic genre folk may search for and find popular.

Bill my blog is listed in my sig below. Unfortunately the sig file does not allow a live url link so the bbcode does not work in it. I miss the many lines of sig we used to be allowed here. :(

Robert Heilein is one of my favorite writers, still. If he were still alive I suspect he would still be cranking out good books, although his later stuff was getting pretty mystical.

Starman Jones was a hoot, his description of computers was something like Eniac. He missed that one entirely. I also liked Star Beast, which was a lot closer to what I consider possible. Have Space Suit Will Travel is also a good read. His early stuff was a lot shorter than his later stuff.

Remember The Moon is a Harsh Mistress? I think that could be made into a decent movie today, it holds up pretty well to the test of time.

Movies that were based off his books:

    Starship Troopers
    Puppet Masters

The 1st one was technically accurate, but missed some of the flavor, while the second was much closer in spirit to the books. Note, there are several movies with the same name, his was scifi, not the fantisy about small living puppets. I tried talking to a guy at Blockbuster who didn't get it one time.

I really don't visit blogs either, but I would think the popular ones are the ones that are about a specific topic (ie, political, tech, etc). Maybe something controversial (Adry's has some of that from the few times I've visited). Maybe something informative (such as someone's extensive accounts on playing golf courses, if you're into golf). Something like that.

I would think people find them because they are looking for a specific thing as apposed to a personal journal of sorts, or they see the person online on a forum such as this, see a post, and maybe it makes them curious as to what the person has to say.

    Just some thoughts...

    Good luck with it.
