BLOGGING- What is this about??

I read a article in the local newspaper about blogging on the internet. Can anyone tell me what this blogging is about? This is a new term to me. ODIE

 

Well, this isn't really a networking topic, but look at it like this.

Blogging is another name basically an online diary for various things.

The word blogging comes from an abbreviation of "web logging" Odie. I always find it easier to understand what things mean if I know the origin. HTH

 

Its about having a bit of personal space on the net you can put anything you like onto Can be useful, can be irrelevant, can be downright rude or complimentary... doesn't matter what! Most people use them to post links to interesting sites they've found, or write "journal" entries, or to show off a bit of hobby work they've done recently.

Thanks for the replys. Blogging is creating your own web site for the purpose of providing any info you find on the web that interested you and you can pass it on to anyone who logs on to your web site. The article I read said that some bloggers were using these web sites for finantial gain, espesially in the corporate world. They said that some were not reporting the income they were making to the IRS as income. They compared it as tips (Money) Bloggers were using these sites as a way to soliitate money for info they were providing. I compare this to TV Preachers begging for your contributions. Anyone else have any comints concerning this - BLOGGING??ODIE

Now, bloggers using their websites for financial gain? Not really very common place. Somtimes people put ads on their blogs (I hate the idea myself), but that sort of things get pennies, I wouldn't blame them or not putting it in their tax returns. Some people run paypal donate buttons, which is usually a sign they're running out of money!

Paypal donate buttons, IMO, are only suitable for charitable things. There are some exceptions, for example if a website is making a product (say, a load of videos) and they need some money to cover the costs but arn't LOOKING to make a profit, then that is fine (in my eyes).

Bloggers are not usually malicious or greedy, but some people just don't get the whole ethic of the web. Those people need to learn.

 

Goldfish: I went Google - What is BlOGGING?? They sent an article about this kid is given $100,000 to write Blogs about the new movie DUKES OF HAZZARD. Now thats what I call miss used of the web for promoting a movie much like SPAMMING. So whats the difference between BLOGGING & SPAMMING?? The Corprate world uses this same tactics. ODIE

 

And no one likes spammers, either!

 

They can also be SMASHING as seen in Hulk's Blog! ;-)

Thanks Laurie! We control where we go to on the net (BLOGGS & PORN & ETC ). SPAMM, SPYWARE, VIRUSIS, & ETC we depend on software programs to control these for us. ODIE

if i had a blog no-one would believe it. no really my whole life just sounds made up. aloha. mind you would that matter? if i wrote fact and people interpreted it as fiction, there is still a very wide audience for fiction. larger than there is for factual diary's probably.

 

Aside from this current comment, that has to be the most worthless post I've read all week Kaula.

 

I think he forgot to include the big smiley face. I thought it was quite funny, cuz everybody knows that blogging causes cancer, not communism!

blogging has gotten a bit boring for me. Onto something newer and more exciting, (i.e. not found on the net)!

Spam comes to blogs too. In the form of COMMENT SPAM. DIE DIE DIE DIE DIE DIE DIE COMMENT SPAMMERS!!!!11111 I get 20 - 100 comments per DAY which are in some way or another advertising viagra, some other impotence drug, online poker or porn. Thankfully my spam scripts put all of these into the moderation queue, but I still have to deal with them.

yeah im starting to have to deal withj getting about 60 comment spams asking me if i want to join online poker. it gets annoying, but spam karma does the job.
