Blue Screen of Death on startup

I have had occasional problems with the power lead and plug on the back of my tower unit before. Due to some minor damage received a while back, the power can sometimes cut out if you move the tower unit whilst it is on as the connection isn't perfect. Normally, if you leave it alone for a few minutes and switch it back on it works fine, or occasionally does a self check on startup. Yesterday after I logged in, the power cut out. When I restarted, after the PC startup screen for Dell PCs, I got a blue screen with the following message:

A problem has been detected and windows has been shut down to prevent damage to your computer.

    UNOUNTABLE_BOOT_VOLUME

If this is the first time you've seen this Stop Error Screen, restart your computer. If this screen appears again, follow these steps:
Check to make sure any new hardware or software is properly installed.
If this is a new installation, ask your hardware or software manufacturer for any windows updates you might need.

If problems continue, disable or remove any newly installed hardware or software. Disable BIOS memory options such as caching or shadowing. If you need to use Safe Mode to remove or disable components, restart your computer, press F8 to select Advanced Startup Options, and then select Safe Mode.

    Technical Information:
    ***STOP: 0x000000ED (0x82F6BBD8, 0xC0000006, 0x00000000, 0x00000000)

So I restarted my computer and got the same message.
I tried again, entering safe mode, and got the following message:

We apologise for the inconvenience, but windows did not start succesfully. A recent hardware or software change might have caused this. If your computer is not responding, restarted unexpectedly, or was automatically shut down to protect your files and folders, choose Last Known Good Configuration to revert to the most recent settings that worked.

I then have a choice of options including Last Known Good Configuration, Safe Mode, Restart Windows Normally, but whichever I choose I get the blue screen message shown above after the startup screen for Windows XP. Sometimes the first part of the code for Technical Information in the brackets is 0x82BD0BD8.

When the power fail happened, my external hard drive was switched on. I have attempted to restart with it both on and off to no avail.

What do I need to do?

    It's ok - I got it fixed.
