    Dear Geeks

First thanks for being there as without you I don't think we woudl have got as far as we have.

I have run all five programs as instructed in Windows XP Clean Procedure. However the one thing that is still in existance is a blue screen when you log off and log on. We did not have this before.

I have attached the logs as instructed and look forward to your comments and advice.

    final log attachment.
Further information the problem started today and it started with Antivirus XP 2008 (adware) then the computer logged the user out and she saw the blue screen which had a message on it about virus's etc on the computer but it was in big bold type face - ie not normal Windows style. sorry just realised that the files did not upload the first time. sorry 1 more to come

    Dear Geeks

I have read through the related links at the bottom and they are very similar but not exactly the same. Yes we had the Anti-virus Windows XP virus and it displayed the screen with the usual warning 'you have a virus etc'. We went through the 5 program clean of which I have attached logs and the computer is behaving fine apart from the fact that we still have blue screen at startup with no markings or writing on it, we are able to proceed through this and get to the normal DT but I am worried that there is still a bit of this thing left in the form of the blue screen.
Please could you tell me how we can re move this from our system completely.
    thanks

Your logs are clean, but there are a couple things to do.

Run this Disable/Remove Windows Messenger to remove Windows Messenger. Do not confuse Windows Messenger with MSN Messenger because they are not the same. Windows Messenger is a frequent cause of popups.

Now copy the bold text below to notepad. Save it as fixme.reg to your desktop. Be sure the "Save as" type is set to "all files" Once you have saved it double click it and allow it to merge with the registry.
Make sure that you tell me if you receive a success message about adding the above
to the registry. If you do not get a success message, it definitely did not work.

Uninstall J2SE Runtime Environment 5.0 as requested in step 1 of the READ & RUN ME.

    Then reboot.

After reboot, now install the current version of Sun Java from: Sun Java Runtime Environment

    • Right click on your Desktop and select Properties.
    • Then click the Desktop tab
    • then click the Customize Desktop button.
    • Now in the next window that comes up click the Web tab.
      • Make sure at the bottom that Lock desktop items is unchecked.
    • Then in the Web pages: box delete all items but My Current Home Page and make sure it is unchecked too.
    • Then click OK.
    • Click Apply. And click OK.
