    Hi again,

I should've been more specific. I have Windows Vista Home Premium. I got the Upgrade and just installed it over my XP Professional. I have 1.5Gb RAM, 1 x 160Gb SATA Hard Drive and 1 x 166Gb IDE Hard Drive. Also, I have a GeForce 7600GT AGP Card (256Mb) and a partridge in a pear tree. LOL.

Anyways, I got the Blue Screen and the PC just shut down unexpectedly. I did a memory test and found no issues. Also, I have Advanced Windows Optimiser and because it needs to the read the registry, it keeps asking me for permission. What a pain in the booty. Can anyone direct me to a Free Registry cleaner for Windows Vista so I can keep my registry squeaky clean please?

    Hi

Did the BSOD have on the screen some error codes if so what was the full BSOD message?

Can also get some info form Event Viewer from around the time of the crash... to get to Event Viewer losg just click Start and type Event Viewer in the Start Search box.

What were you doing on the PC at the time of the BSOD, was it using a specific application or does this BSOD just randomly happen.

Its very very likely that you have some software or a driver that is not Vista compatible, main culprits in software are generally your security softwares, so double check that yours are upto date and Vista compatible. Finding a software culprit is not easy and long winded task, which is why many and I would always advise is to clean install.

But with the BSOD code this may help narrow the cause down.

Most cleaners will flag up a UAC prompt as this is a security measure to help try and prevent unknown items from saving themselves in the registry, so to clean the registry sadly the applications need to run from an elevated mode.

Hello to Halo and Mark Trent.

The BSOD was random. I wasn't doing anything specific. Just a few minutes ago, I was using Ares and it happened again. Thanks Mark, I will look into those links and download the free registry cleaner. Mark, do you think that I should just upgrade with the Full Vista DVD? I have a legitimate copy of the Academic Upgrade.

Thanks for the links and the info.

    Kind Regards
