Have you found a fix for your Control Panel problem? I am experiencing almost the exact same thing. Also running Windows ME. Only difference is that my puter indicates that there are 38 items in control pane yet none of the icons are visible. I have already gone back into Spybot and restored the items it removed but no fix. I was first alerted to the problem when my Norton Systems Works 2003 indicated that something was messing with it. Was not able to open up the program and run any of it's tools so I uninstalled it and installed EZ Armor through RoadRunner. Don't seem to have a virus problem (I even ran the Norton emergency scan yesterday from the CD that tool 4 hrs) but am experiencing the problems you ststed along with a few others that include browsing.
