:confused:confusedThis is an intersting problems, even for me with a background in IT. This system belongs to my daughter. It's an Alienware Area-51 7500 R5. gaming computer It has windows vista home premium loaded and 4GB of ram. She's had this computer for about a year with no problem. About a week ago she was using it, watching online videos and it crashed with the BSOD, she tried many time to reboot, but it came up with the BSOD and each time it was a different error code.

She brought it to me and I looked at it and ended up reloading visat with no problems. All drivers installed with no problems, all seemed well, except after about a half hour it crashed again. The BSOD flashes so quick I could't see the error message. It did once stop on a BSOD error message that says Memory_Management, I had this problem on my laptop and it turned out to be a bad memory module.

But my daughter's computer it wasn't that easy. I tried each stick individually in all the slots (4) and the computer works just fine for hours with no problems. When I installed two sticks together all is well, the same with three, but when I install four which is the setup for this system, it crashes.

No matter which stick I remove it works just fne, but as soon as you installed the fourth one, no matter which slot. It crashes. Can anyone tell me what the heck is going on with this system

I can't answer your main question but you have to stop your auto reboots to properly read theBSOD. It'll be in Start/rht-click System Properties/ Advanced/Startup and recovery, reboot. Try running Memtest86+ on each pair of modules, if they're all fine then perhaps it's a failed slot on the mobo, was it always the same slot when you plugged in the last stick?

Thanks for the info, no it wasn't the same slot each tome, I moved all of the sticks around to different slots to make sure that it wasnt a slot. As I said as long as there is three or lest sticks it all works fine, it's only after installing the fourth stick that it crashes and it doesn't matter what slot the fourth stick is placed it crashes.:confused

Sorry, a correction to my above post. It should read:

I hope it's still under warranty as Alienware costs some good bucks. Maybe a memory controller going bad or not enough memory voltage. I don't have an idea. Perhaps once you can read the BSOD may give a clue. Have you checked the heat.

Unfortunately, the system is no longer under warranty, and you're right, Alienware systems are very expensive, I'm not sure why they brought it for what they are doing with it. The husband was playing games at one time, but for whatever reason just stopped playing them.

The system temp is good, as a matter of fact the entire system is working just fine without the fourth stick of memory. I had a print out of the system information but forgot to bring to work with me to post. I'll post it later

Thanks again for your help, a memory controller problem seems to be in the right direction.
