Here is what I got, I got the following pop up from my virus scan

    "Blocked by Buffer Overflow Protection HOME\Owner C:\Program Files\Internet Explorer\iexplore.exe::LoadLibraryA bo:heap"

After this occured my computer locked up and I had to restart from the power button.
(I believe this occurred after I downloaded what I thought was a codex I need to view a video file)

After restarting my computer it locked up several more times until I figured out that it was Internet explorer causing the this problem. I tried to restore to a previous good restore point but there were none with I now know is because of the buffer overflow.

Additionally I have several other issues going on:

    1. Now if I launch Internet Explorer I get the same buffer overflow indication and my computer locks up.
    2. I can only access my c: drive via explorer.
    3. I can't launch my spy ware program (spy-bot search and destroy).
    3. I can't defrag my harddrive.
    4. I can't error check my harddrive.
    5. There could be other thing's I can't do but I my not have come found them yet.

I can access the internet using a differn't web browser and run other progams so it hasn't taken my entire computer down. I think I have a wareout infection by I am not for sure. I was going to follow the "Read and Run Me First" selection but thought I would go ahead and post my situation to be sure I was on the right track. Any assistance is greatly appreciated.

We can only tell if it is malware related if you do the Read and Run First instructions and attach the requested logs. :)

    TimW,
Thanks for the reply. I am stumped right now. I have been trying to get Spybot search and destroy on my machine for the past several hours. It will download fine but every time I go to install it I get the same pop up that says:

"Error Sending Request" "The Server Name could not be Resolved".

I have tried saving to a download file on the c: drive and running it, I have tired to run it directly from the download window. I have also downloaded it on another machine and then tried putting it on this machine and still get the same indication. I have tried to directly to the Website for Spybot Search and Destroy and can not get there on this machine. I can get to it from my laptop though.

Should I continue on with the Windows XP cleaning instructions? I ran SUPERAntiSpyware and it worked just fine. I am using Safari browser right now since I can not launch Internet Explorer. Thanks again for the assistance.

Looks pretty good, let's just do this:

Please use add/remove programs to uninstall:
    Viewpoint Media Player

Please disable all anti-virus and anti-spyware programs while we do the following (re-enable when you are finished):

Run C:\MGtools\analyse.exe by double clicking on it (Note: if using Vista, don't double click, use right click and select Run As Administrator). This is really HijackThis (select Do a system scan only) and select the following lines but DO NOT CLICK FIX until you exit all browser sessions including the one you are reading in right now:
    After clicking Fix, exit HJT.

Now Copy the bold text below to notepad. Save it as fixME.reg to your desktop. Be sure the "Save as" type is set to "all files" Once you have saved it double click it and allow it to merge with the registry.
Make sure that you tell me if you receive a success message about adding the above
to the registry. If you do not get a success message, it definitely did not work.

Now use windows explorer to find and delete:
    c:\windows\system32\RENC3.tmp
    c:\windows\system32\RENC2.tmp
    c:\windows\system32\gaopdxcounter

You should not be allowing all users to have admin. privileges. Once malware gets in, it has free reign. You need to run SAS and MBAM on all user accounts.

Now run the C:\MGtools\GetLogs.bat file by double clicking on it. Then attach the new C:\MGlogs.zip file.

    TimW,

Completed all of your follow on instructions. I did receive a success message for adding the fixME.reg file. I also ran SAS and MBAM for both user accounts and changed them to "Limited" instead of "Administrator" accounts. SAS did not find any problems but MBAM did so I am including there logs as well.

Thanks again for all your help!

Sweet.....your logs are clean. One suggestion, get more ram! :)

If you are not having any other malware problems, it is time to do our final steps:

    1. We recommed you keep SUPERAntiSpyware and Malwarebytes Anti-Malware for scanning/removal of malware. Unless you purchase them, they provide no real time protection. They are useful as backup scanners. They do not use any significant amount of resources ( except a little disk space ) until you run a scan.
    2. If we had you use ComboFix, uninstall ComboFix (This uninstall will only work as written if you installed ComboFix on your Desktop like we requested.)
      • Click START then RUN and enter the below into the run box and then click OK. Note the quotes are required
      • "%userprofile%\Desktop\combofix" /u
        • Notes: The space between the combofix" and the /u, it must be there.
        • This will uninstall ComboFix and also reset hidden files and folders settings back to Windows defaults.

      • Delete the C:\combofix folder from combofix (if it exists)

    3. Any other miscellaneous tools we may have had you install or download can be uninstalled and deleted.
    4. If running Vista, it is time to make sure you have reenabled UAC by double clicking on the C:\MGtools\enableUAC.reg file and allowing it to be added to the registry.
    5. Go to add/remove programs and uninstall HijackThis.
    6. You can delete the C:\MGtools folder and the C:\MGtools.exe file. You can also delete the C:\MGlogs.zip
    7. If you are running Vista, Windows XP or Windows ME, do the below:
      • Refer to the cleaning steps in the READ ME for your Window version and see the steps to Disable System Restore which will flush your Restore Points.
      • Then reboot and Enable System Restore to create a new clean Restore Point.

    8. After doing the above, you should work thru the below link:
