Bonfire Night Tradition

It's getting to that time of year where Brits all over the world celebrate bonfire night.......and the rest of the world wonder what the heck we are doing.....burning effigies and eating toffee hard enough to pop your teeth out!! So I thought I would post some background info so that everyone can share in this British tradition as November 5th draws near. There's even a gunpowder plot game you can play!!! Yayyy!!

I never realised Guy Fawkes was a Yorkshireman...kinda explains why he was such a trouble maker

It's kinda got me thinking....anyone got any wierd traditions in their corner of the world the rest of us don't know about? Please share

 

ahh, bonfire night. i remember it well. we used to go to bredhurst woods, (somewhere near maidstone) and party the night away........good times

 

Yeah, "A penny for the Guy", was the call to cadge some money for 5th Nov. fireworks. Alas, one cannot buy them privately anymore. Not in Aust. anyway.

Guy Fawkes and the infamous 'Gunpowder Plot'. They hung that ‘Bonnie Yorkshireman’ for high treason.

The Chinese use gunpowder for magic and display. The Europeans had a more deadly use for it. Now it's back to magic and display purposes, ah well.
