Someone told me that it's really good.

If by good, you mean "The Best" you're absolutely right.

He picked up the letter Q and hurled it into a distant privet bush where it hit a young rabbit. The rabbit hurtled off in terror and didn't stop till it was set upon and eaten by a fox which choked on one of its bones and died on the bank of a stream which subsequently washed it away.

During the following weeks Ford Prefect swallowed his pride and struck up a relationship with a girl who had been a personnel officer on Golgafrincham, and he was terribly upset when she suddenly passed away as a result of drinking water from a pool that had been polluted by the body of a dead fox. The only moral it is possible to draw from this story is that one should never throw the letter Q into a privet bush.

Angels and Demons is really good. Not sci-fi but it is a Dan Brown book. I'd look into it.

And a definite supporting vote for the Ultimate Hitchhiker's Guide. I picked it up on the sale table at Barnes & Noble for around $15.00. I'd have paid full price. :-D

+1 for 1984, Douglas Adams, and Dan Brown. Brave New World is also good.

    Some of my favourites:

Anything by Guy Gavriel Kay (Canadian alternative universive/fantasy writer)
Xanth series by Piers Anthony (A little repetitive after the first couple of books but really funny)
    Lord of the Rings
Chronicles of Narnia (although written for kids, very cool...)

I've got more recommendations but these are the ones that come to mind first.
    Enjoy!

Actually, there is quite a world out there, in books.
I was a strict Sci-fi fan, who only knew authors named Heinlein, Bradbury, Asimov, etc.
One of my Lit teachers made me read Silas Marner. I went screaming, kicking, and whining into those pages.
When I had finished, I had a tear in my eye and a new respect for the power of the written word.

READ or at least start off gently with some audio books.

Books on tape? Sometimes those are really fun if they're narated by someone like Patrick Stewart.

so long as I can adjust the speed of the "book on tape" (CD) . I prefer to just skip to the end and read it backwards.. I was always a sucker for prequels :)

When I was a kid, they had all the classic, must read books in comic book form.
    Would that help?

Maybe we should explain that Lord of the Rings is a book? Ooooh... maybe we need to DEFINE book... with diagrams and small monosyllabic words...

no, just tell me who the main characters are. who they hate, who hates them and who dies and in what order and I'm good to go.

Musksnipe - I totally remember those and in fact I in Grade 7 was able to do a book report on them! (OK, so I totally "Geeked" it up by comparing the Comic book version of a couple of books to the real thing, but hey, that's not the point :D)

But see, that takes creativity, and you had to actually read them TO know the difference. Plus 10 points.
