i just finished Countdown To Crisis: The Coming Nuclear Showdown With Iran by Kenneth R. Timmerman...

I won't go into any details but much of the book is based on information provided by Iranian defectors who held sensitive positions within Iran's intelligence agency, one of which is identified by his name and confirmed to have held an important position within the Islamic Republic... The author of the book used his contacts within CIA and other agencies within the U.S. government to confirm and verify the information he was receiving from these defectors and informants, and it is shockingly credible... Also in the book's appendix are classified Iranian documentes that this defector provided that shed like on some truly shocking revelations... After having read the book, I am amazed that much of this information has not been all over the American media (probably due to the Iraq quagmire)

Truthfully, I am now more concerned about Iran and their covert actions w/ 3rd party organizations (not just Al Qaeda) than ever... Not to mention their nuclear proliferation... In the very last chapter of the book the author proposes a hypothetical scenario by which Iran could deliver a nuclear attack on a major U.S. City and I was simply in awe by the feasibility of it.

for those of you who enjoy reading non-fiction about events that are current and relevant in our society today, check it out... (i got the hardcover used off Amazon for like $11)

I recently re-read "A Fire Upon the Deep" by Vernor Vinge. Simply amazing and full of plausible ideas that will spin your head around and make you want to read everything this guy has done. Easily among the top 10 working in science fiction today. Anything that I might say about it would likely spoil the discoveries for you. If you don't enjoy it, send it to me and I'll eat it!
. Be warned, have nothing planned for the next day or two from when you start in - you may not be able to put it down and it's not a thin book.

I love Dean Koontz..his writing style is awesome and fascinates me, to the extent that I am gradually working through his collection. I only discovered him by accident about 18 months ago as I had a long flights and just bought anything to read. Also an ongoing read for me is the Bible (NIV, Message, American).

"I don't read fiction..." So sad, I guess some never really learn to enjoy reading, so only do it when forced or to improve the income!
