Boosting Audio

I have an HP laptop with windows 8.1.when I watch some things the sound is low & I have put it as high as it can be.Speakers are not an option because I carry the laptop from place to place so is there some way that I can increase the sound volume on my laptop from within windows or download a free program that boosts the audio volume?On my desktop I had the same problem & I downloaded an audio enhancer & it turned out it had a virus & also the sound didn't improve that much.

Give this a shot before you download and install any "amplifier" programs.

1. Right-click the speaker (volume control) icon in your system tray
2. Click on "Playback Devices"
3. In the window that pops up, select your output (it might help to have music playing, so you can see which output(s) are active), and choose "Properties".
4. In the new window that pops up, navigate to the "Enhancements" tab
5. Uncheck the box next to "Loudness Equalization", or (even better, imo) click the checkbox that says "Disable All Enhancements"

See if that helps. I've found it makes a big difference in the output.

Now here is why I do not recommend third party utilities that "amplify" the volume:

The way these programs work is by increasing the "gain" of the audio. When the gain gets adjusted beyond a certain point, the audio will distort because of clipping that occurs. TL;DR: You can make the audio louder, but it will sound like crap.

You might look into a hardware solution known as a DAC (Digital to Analog converter), these can be quite small (around the size of a thumb drive), and plug into your computer via USB. You'd then plug your earphones into that.

But there is no way of amplifying the internal laptop speakers, other than perhaps toying around with putting surfaces next to the speaker.
