Hi folks. I am having a weird boot problem with the following comp. Gigabyte mobo, AMD 6300 6 core cpu , Adata 120gig SSD, 8 gig of Adata memory, 750 watt EVGA psu. . Almost every time I boot, the first time fails at the flash screen.. If I hit F9 to check the system specs (before the option disappears) the window is empty. Hitting ok will send it back to the flash screen. If the numbers are in the window, it will boot. Occasionally, it will show the wrong numbers for CPU speed. It is supposed to be 3500MGHz and right now on this boot, it says it is 8855.00. Yesterday it said 400556.00, but it booted into windows (7 Ultimate) and works/ed fine. Any thoughts would be appreciated. Thank you.

I would replace the CMOS battery. Make sure you unplug the computer from the wall, then touch bare metal of the case interior to discharge any static in your body, then remove the old battery. It is probably a CR2032 wafer battery available at most any battery/watch/camera center at your local discount store. Do not touch the new battery with your bare fingers as skin oils promote corrosion and attract dust - I put a clean sock over my hand.

While in there, make sure the case interior is clean of heat-trapping dust and all cables are securely connected.

Then connect power and boot directly into the BIOS setup menu and reset your date and time, make sure your boot order are correct (if you changed them) and "Save and Exit". Hopefully that will fix your issue.

Thanks for the reply. It isn't something I considered, since every comp I have had including my old P4 (still going) never had a battery fail. Still, it is a simple fix and worth a try. This actually happened a few times about a year ago, but it fixed itself. Again thanks for the reply.

No promise this is the problem or fix, but they only cost a couple $$ so little harm if not the problem. Note these batteries typically last 3 - 5 years, though I have had them last 10 years or more. But I have also had them last less than a year, and even had a couple that were bad right out of the package.

Will give it a try. I believe everything is still under warranty if this doesn't work.

If still under warranty, you might want to check with tech support first.
