Boot Priority?

I just upgraded to a SATA drive from a regular ATA drive and I was wondering how to set the boot priority. I'm running a GA-7N400 Pro2 (revision 2) MB with an Award BIOS. It used to be set at HDD 0, but since I'm using the onboard SATA port my machine is taking longer to boot and after the POST screen another screen comes up showing the SATA Driver version and the HDD itself and it seems to stay on forever. I'm only guessing, but I thought if I could set the correct boot priority I could do away with that 2nd screen. If it helps, I'm running Win2000Pro. ANY help would be greatly appreicated...THANKS!!!

There should be a section in the BIOS for configuring SATA drives.

Make sure ATA is disabled. There is a chance your BIOS is still trying to boot from ATA first, so that would cause a good 5-10 second delay as your bios looks, realizes there is no ATA drive to boot from, then moves onto the Serial ATA to boot.

Okay, I just came from my BIOS and here's what I found; In 'Advanced BIOS' it still has my boot drive as HDD 0 with the only other options being HDD 1, HDD 2, HDD3, or LS120. Plus the usual CD-Rom, floppy, etc. My next stop was 'Standard CMOS Features' and there it had IDE Primary Master-None, but under IDE Primary Slave it had-Iomega Zip 100. (installed my internal ZIP to the IDE slot vacated by my ATA drive.) If I set that to 'none' then my Zip wouldn't work, correct? Now, my last stop, 'Integrated Peripherals.' There I found 'On-Chip Primary PCI IDE enabled' Same with the secondary. On the side was this explanation; 'if a HDD controller card is used, set at Disabled.' I'm using the on-board SATA chip and if I disable those 2 wouldn't my Zip cease to function also?
In case you haven't noticed, I am confused!! I'm learning, but still confused!!!:)

It wouldn't disable your zip drive it just wouldn't boot from it.

Okay, I'll set that one to 'none' also and see what happens. But how about in the 'Integrated Peripherals?' Do they both need to be set as 'disabled' also? Since I am using the on-board chip for SATA. I guess I could experiment with it, but my last 'experiment' with a computer ended in disaster and I sure don't want to go down that road again!!

Do you have a manual for your MOBO?

Ironically enough, that was the first place I turned too before I even posted here. However, it gave me no indication on what too do. I guess maybe that old cliche' would fit pretty well here..."If it's not broke...don't fix it!":) Actually, once the machine gets fully booted, it runs great and I have noticed a difference between the ATA and the SATA HDD. Not a blinding speed difference, but one that is quite acceptable. I want to thank all you guys (or gals) that helped. It WAS very much appreicated. However, if something comes to mind to help me decrease my boot time with this SATA drive, well I'll still be here!! Again, THANKS!!!!!

Go into your HDD settings and reset them to auto detect might work.

There might be no way round it though.

I think you may just be right...there is no other way around this. I have everything set to 'auto' and the results are the same. Oh well, it's something I can live with because, like I said, once it's booted fully, it runs great and since I'm running Win2000Pro, I don't have to re-boot that often. The extra 10 or 15 seconds it takes to boot is worth the end result . Again, thank you very much for all your help and time. It was appreicated in a big way!!!:)
