I upgraded to SP2 a few weeks ago and everything has seemed to work fine. Today I had Norton do a live update and rebooted the PC. It gets to a screen saying Windows is starting and just hangs there and will not boot into XP. I have booted into safe mode and did a system restore and still it hangs at that screen. I have no problems opening programs or anything in safe mode.

Does anyone know of a way to get regular mode to boot correctly, what should I look at in safe mode? Or should I uninstall Norton in safe mode then try and reinstall if I can get in? If needed I will reinstall XP, but don't have time right now for that.

I would try uninstalling norton for now as test.

if you have no time, you may disable some programs from starting with windows, just go to start > run > msconfig and there you may disable anything, just be carefull with services and boot.ini ;)

Wierd thing, I tried to reboot again and it hung. I ended up letting it sit there for about 30 minutes. (got a phone call) and it booted in and works fine. I haven't rebooted yet to see if this will happen everytime or something.

Does anyone happen to know if there is some sort of lag setting during boot up that could have gotten corupted?
