Boot Problems

Hi folks,

Got a problem that I probably caused. Installed a new 60G Maxtor HD (3 Partitions) and installed Win2K Pro. Used my old 20G Fujitsu to set up Mandrake Linux 9.1.
Problem is that LILO didn't seem to realise Windows was there and went straight to Linux. Managed to get it to attempt a boot into Windows and of course it wouldn't.
Reinstalled Win2K on Maxtor, no probs, however now I can't boot Linux, (unless I change boot order of drives and not always then.
Any ideas anyone? All gratefully received.

ps. This is my first experience of Linux so please be gentle with me.

 

I have XP on my new drive and Mandrake 9.1 on the old one.

When you install the boot loader. Choose GRUB. You can also choose your default OS to boot. Linux is the default. I changed mine to XP because the kids play games. When all is done, the bootup screen will give you a few seconds to select a different OS than the default.

I'm gonna use Partition Magic 8 to label all my win partitions and then reinstall Linux. Spent all day researching and managed to find drivers for my Conexant ADSL Modem and Nvidia V9520, plus lots of good tips. I will take your advice about Grub.
One consolation though, I can already tell I'm going to have less hassle with Linux than Windows........ or maybe the same amount of hassle just different
