Boot up problems

Greetings, all.

About a week ago I started experiencing several Blue Screens of Death of various types. One which liked to show up most often was:

KERNEL STACK INPAGE ERROR/Stop 0x00000077

I uninstalled anything I had installed recently (old games a buddy gave me and I never played), ran a virus scan (avast!) and ran CHKDISK in /R and /F. Blue Screens of Death haven't appeared since, but occasionally on startup I would get this message almost immediately:

The screen wipes and the message comes up again, even if I turn off the laptop and restart.

Furthermore, it refuses to come out of Hibernate whenever I close it (I shut idle time hibernation off to avoid this).

It's an HP notebook running Windows XP SP 2. The hard drive is a Fujitsu MHV2100, if I remember correctly (the laptop's going through the PXE dance right now; I'm using someone else's desktop, so I can't check).

Me suspects a hard drive problem, but I really don't know.

Any thoughts?

Hi. If you can, you might try wiping the hard drive, then reloading Windoze. It's worth a try. Good night and good luck.
