I have an HP computer here that wouldn't boot.

So I booted to Windows XP disk Secleted #1 for C:\WINDOWS pressed ENTER when prompted for the password and then I ran a chkdsk /r.

Computer still didn't startup. So I boot to disk again. I Select #1 again and press ENTER when the password prompt comes up. Now it is saying the password is invalid.

I've never come across this before. Any suggestions?

No, I haven't come across this before, but since the PC isn't booting one-way-or-the-other, it may be time to seriously consider performing a clean install: format the drive then re-install Windows. If there's data to be saved, there's numerous ways to to it: remove the drive, connect to a healthy a PC and browse to the stuff you need and copy it over; or use a boot disc like the UBCD4Win or a live Linux disc (like Knoppix) and an external drive, or use one of its included burning tools and burn your data to a CD/DVD....

Yeah I've already backed up the data and reloaded it.

I was just curious as to why that would happen at all. Never have I seen it not work after working perfectly the day before.
