During booting on a Windows XP machine, the user selection screen appears. But the cursor arrow only moves vertically -- I can't get the cursor to move horizontally. How do I select a user so the computer can finish booting?

on the login screen (i just tried it, but only have 1 username), try hitting the up arrow, then enter your p/w if required.

fyi, alt + the letter is like selecting it. so if you get to something that has 1 letter underlined (screenshot below), just hit alt, then the appropriate letter. and of course, "esc" key cancels it. g/l, sos

This works! The up/down arrows move through the user lists.

Thanks sosaman! I've been looking for this for quite a while. I can't believe I never tried the arrow keys. I guess I was fixated on the Tab key. I think I've tried every combination of Tab Shift Alt Ctrl F1-F12 possible. Thanks for sharing.
