many beeps on start up. cursor moves by itself. The keys t, g, b and 5 do not work. Have to use acc keyboard for those keys. Did malware removal -no change

Beeps on startup refer to faults in the system (post failure)....usually hardware...which is where I am moving this thread. :)

Beep codes could be telling you the built in keyboard is bad.....which is why you are using a diff. one. You can go to the manufactures web site and search for "beep codes" ...

I'm assuming this is a laptop. You have a malfunctioning/faulty keyboard; it's pretty obvious from the fact that the malfunctioning keys are all in a perfect column. It is not a malware problem; it is not a software or driver problem. If an external keyboard works fine, then you know that there's nothing wrong with the software or the PC itself. Most laptop keyboards can be found on EBay (or other online sources) for under $50. Installing them can usually be done at home with a bright light and some patience. You'll also need a magnetic mini-phillips screwdriver and a cup or ziploc baggie for the screws. They're REALLY small and easy to lose. Just pay close attention to how you remove the bad keyboard so you'll remember how to reassemble everything after the new keyboard is in. Or you can take it to your local PC shop; they should be able to do it for about $100 including parts and labor. DO NOT take it to the GeekSquad/Best Buy. They'll probably say that the entire laptop needs replacing, or the motherboard is bad. Another one of their favorites is to quote ridiculously high on a repair and follow the quote with "it's probably cheaper and easier to just buy another PC". A friend was quoted $350 for a hard drive replacement on his Toshiba laptop. They said it was so high because it used a "special" type of drive and the laptop had to be "completely taken apart" to get the bad hard drive out. The words in quotes are the exact phrases used by the Geek Squad. The drive required is a regular SATA 2.5" laptop hard drive (I guess they though the "S" stood for "special") and removing the old drive required the removal of 2 screws and sliding open a compartment. They lie, and they're lazy.

(sorry for the anti GS rant. I really, really, REALLY have no respect their business practices)

If you don't have a laptop, then just get a new keyboard :p

problem occurred 2 weeks ago. no beeps, but bad keys -including l, no cursor problem. i did malware removal. everything worked. Keyboard worked after uninstalling driver. Today, when I press b, cursor acts like typing HOME /goes to start of line. Other keys - nothing. The l key works. Did malware removal - no effect.

Toshiba Tecra M5 laptop is only 11 months old. What a piece of trash if keyboard fails in 11 months. bought logitech wireless keyboard and it works fine. Problem of cursor going bonkers - continuous scrolling or jumping to top of menu list or directory still exists. Sometimes it stops when I use the arrow keys to highlight item. Any ideas?
To get rid of start up beeps, do I just uninstall keyboard driver ?

For the mouse moving my itself, sometimes that happens to me on my computer. Also, it happens to every single computer in the computer lab, and it's pretty annoying. One of my teachers thinks it's an XP problem. He claims to have had it happen to a ball mouse as well. If he's wrong, I blame shoddy mice.

If I click on the Firefox menu item Bookmarks, sometimes the apparent mouse is scrolling quickly up the menu items until it reaches the top and then starts at the bottom and scrolls to the top continuously, non-stop. If I try to click on an item, the scrolling resumes there. If I'm in another menu like explorer and try to grab the scroll bar on the directories , left side panel, while the un-controlled scrolling is happening, it fights my control but I can move it down, against the normal direction of its movement. Sometimes if I use an arrow key , it stops and I have normal control. The mouse is new, just bought a Logitech wireless mouse and keyboard.
