    Hello Everyone...

So heres my problem. Last night in the middle of reinstalling Windows Vista Ultimate my DVD Burner/Drive killed itself. The motor inside the Drive stopped being able to spin the disc. Now i do have a backup copy of the DVD on my external HD. *Backup purposes only as CDs, and DVD and anything of that sort do not last very long with me, i don't feel like going out there and buying a new Vista DVD as they are expensive.* I found an Instructional guide on how to boot off of a Flash Drive, but the thing is, my biggest Flash Drive is 256mb. I was wondering if i could use this guide for a secondary internal Hard drive instead? Heres the Guide:

    I don't understand.

Surely your actual Vista DVD is still intact?
I presume you will remove the disk and replace the failed DVD drive, they are not that expensive although I am suprised that one new enough to have come with Vista has failed. Are you quite sure the drive has failed, or has for instance the power cable come loose?

Some motherboards, especially more modern ones, will let you boot from an external hard drive. Look in the BIOS for settings.

I don't have the money at the moment to replace the drive, and i don't have any extras laying around from older builds, This computer is *not* Brand new from the store. I don't buy comoputers from the store as they come with way too much bloatware. This one i built myself. And yes i am sure the Drive Failed because I tried several Different power Rails to get it to work. I know its the motor because the bios sees the drive, but when i put a dvd or cd in i can hear the drive attempting to spin the disk. And yes my Vista DVD is still intact.

SORRY don't know how to do the quote part

    2 ways

Use the quote button at the bottom of each post.

Use the wrap icon at the end of the toolbar in the reply box, copy and paste in the bit you want.

    Have you checked you BIOS?

No i did not check the bios...BUT when i go into select boot device or the boot menu after the splash screen the DVD drive is there. I put my vista DVD in and it won't read the DVD. I tried my XP cd and the same thing happened. I selected to boot off DVD or CD and it wouldn't boot off of the CD or DVD. It would just go right into the failed install of vista. I can hear the Drive attempting to spin the disk.
