    Hello

I am looking for a Borland Database Engine, or similar software, that will help me open and process dB IV files within MS Access. Can't see where to get them via MS, although MS Help in Access mentions needing them for this purpose. I'm open to any other software that will help me do what I need.

Here's what I'm trying to do - if anyone has a good idea to accomplish this, please share: I have daily dB IV data files that I need to collate into a single monthly file. Each daily file is about 1 Mb in size, but I only need about 5 of the 12 columns that are in each file. I am looking for a way to process the data using Access (or any other db management software) to achieve the monthly file of data that I need, in a manageable size.

I'm weak on Access methods, but am a ready learner. Used to know a fair amount of Access procedures, but most has leaked out of my brain. Suggestions and guidance are most welcome! Thanks.....

    Bob

I never learned Access, but I built my own book using Microsoft Excel.
I had the business pack that included access, and occasional referred to it, but my simple method using Excel, was to make identical columns in another sheet, and then highlight the columns I wanted, and then click copy, click the new sheet, and then click paste special, and the paste link.
I would have expected a version of Microsoft Office to open the access data base, - however , mine was the full version , which included Access - it was on the CD'S.
Open Office is quite good , now, and it will Pull in data from external databases with DataPilot technology its a free download, it is worth a look.

Thanks for the suggestion, Baklogic - I use Excel a lot as well. Myproblem is I have 265 separate files that need collating - that's a lot of copy-paste! I am hoping to be able to do a more global file build using a database - Access or something else. OO may prove useful. Take care....

I've converted a number of dB IV database files to access. It is very easy as Access reads dB files directly.

So open access then file open and point it at the dB 4 file and it'll read it then save it as an access file.
