Both Optical drives are gone!

Hello,

I'm helping a neighbor that's running the ME o.s. (yes, I know it's terrible) but she can no longer see her Cd drives on "MYComputer". She has a CD Rom drive and a DVD/RW drive and whether using "My Computer" or "Windows Explorer", they are not longer visable.

What we've tried thus far:

1. We did a System Restore to an earlier date but to no avail.
2. I thought she could run a SFC to see if any system files were compromised but in talking with her on the phone she couldn't find the SFC. I also had her try and run the command from "Run" and "nada". Where is the SFC on ME?
3. She didn't know which drive was a bootable drive and the only one that's working (at least mechanically) is the DVD drive, so I told her to put in her system disk and try booting it from that drive and that didn't work either.

The CDROM drive cannot be opened.

Not sure if I've seen this problem before.

Any help or suggestions (other than replaceing the o.s.) would be helpful.

Sounds like a device failure or a power issue.
Check the power cables to the devices first.
